1. Артикли

Одним из определителей существительного в английском языке является артикль.

Артикль может быть:

• неопределенным a (an) – a combination; a computer; an aircraft; an example.

• определенным the – the combination; the computer; the aircraft; the example.

a (an)	the	нет артикля
Показывает, что лицо или предмет является одним из ряда подобных: Take a pencil and write.	Выделяет предмет или лицо из ряда подобных: Take the pencil, please.	Перед существительными во множественном числе, которые не конкретизируются: Take pencils and write. Перед именами собственными: Mary lives in London, the capital of England. Перед неисчисляемыми абстрактными существительными: love, hate, pride, time, money и т.д.

V. Прочитайте и переведите предложения. Где необходимо, поставьте артикли:

2. Глагол “to be” (быть)

Глаголом называется часть речи, которая обозначает действие или состояние лица или предмета.

VI. Прочитайте предложения, обращая особое внимание на форму глагола “to be”. Определите, в каком времени стоит предложение. Предложения переведите:

1. Mathematics is essential to science. 2. Arithmetic, algebra, geometry and trigonometry are essential to physics. 3. The scientific approach is essential in the formation of hypotheses,theories, andlaws. 4. Sciencewas a study of different phenomena in nature. 5. The investigations were important. 6. The systematic base of knowledge in science will be necessary. 7. The difference between science, engineering and technology is not always clear. 8. Achievements in experimental science are very important for applied science. 9. Technology is a result of scientific research. 10. The generation of hypotheses about a phenomenon will be necessary. 11. Different scientific methods and knowledge were necessary for investigations and experiments.

VII. К предложениям из предыдущего упражнения (VI) поставьте вопросы и дайте отрицательные ответы.

VIII. Вставьте соответствующую форму глагола “to be” во времени Present Indefinite:

Organizational problems … only one negative factor. 12. The formation of a hypothesis about this phenomenon … a great problem.

IX. Предложения из предыдущего упражнения поставьте сначала в прошедшее время (Past Indefinite), а затем в будущее время (Future Indefinite).

X. Переведите следующие предложения на английский язык:

а) 1. Сотовый телефон был необходим для взаимодействия. 2. Современная технология будет важным фактором развития общества. 3. База современных знаний велика. 4. Современные технические методы были необходимы для развития науки и техники.
