Review
Ех. 5.19. Are the sentences about writing a covering letter true or false?
1. All covering letters have the address and date.
2. The opening salutation shows the recipient’s name. If the latter is known,
Dear Sir or Madam is preferable.
3. It is important to start a covering letter with giving your reason for writing
and saying where you saw the advert.
4. It is a good idea to describe yourself generally and say why you are interested
in the job.
5. It is not advisable to describe your skills, experience, and qualities and how
they are suited to the job.
6. The covering letter may be finished with asking for an interview and giving
your availability.
Ех. 5.20. When applying for a job or a placement, you should always send
a covering letter with your CV or resume. Divide the list below into Dos and Don’ts for writing dynamic covering letters:

87
3. Ask directly for an interview.
4. Write at least 400 words the more information you give, the better.
5. Use sophisticated language to make a good impression.
6. Follow the AIDA model used in advertising — attention, interest, desire, action.
