VOLGOGRAD STATE SOCIAL PEDAGOGICAL UNIVERSITY
Volgograd State Social Pedagogical University is one of the major and leading
pedagogical institutions of higher learning in the Russian Federation. It was founded
on May the 22nd 1931 as Stalingrad Industrial Pedagogical Institute. On October the
1st 1931 the first lectures began in four departments of the Institute. In 1932 the
Institute got the name of Stalingrad State Pedagogical Institute.

The Institute was destroyed during the Battle of Stalingrad in 1942. But the
reconstruction of it began immediately after the victory over the fascists in Stalingrad
in 1943.
After the Great Patriotic War Stalingrad State Pedagogical Institute was
situated in the building of Akademicheskaya Street (now it is Building No. 2). The
Main Building of the Institute was constructed in 1959. Building No. 1 was built next
to it in 1998.
On January 19, 1949 the Institute was named after the famous writer
Alexander Serafimovitch.
During the 60s and 70s of the 20th century the famous scientific research
centers were opened at the institute.
In 1992 the institute got the status of the university and the name of Volgograd
State Pedagogical University (VSPU).
In 2004 the university won the “International European Quality Contest” in the
nomination “100 Best Universities”.
During the last ten years the university is among ten best pedagogical and
linguistic universities in Russia due to the high standards of knowledge and
professionalism of the graduates.
Since 2011 our university has the name of Volgograd State Social Pedagogical
University (VSSPU).
Nowadays the university is one of the most popular educational establishments
in our country. There are full-time students, part-time students, foreign students and
postgraduates.
Volgograd State Social Pedagogical University is an educational complex. It
has its branch in Mikhailovka, Volgograd Region. There are three pedagogical
colleges, the gymnasium, the boys’ pedagogical lyceum, schools and kindergartens
which are the part of the complex.
Teaching and research are carried out by highly qualified staff. There are
Academicians, Doctors of Science and Candidates of Science. Many of them are
professors and corresponding members of the Russian Education Academy and
International Academies.
The university offers courses leading to higher degrees in all areas of education
and other professional fields: Bachelor (4 years of studying), Master (2 years of
studying), Candidate of Science (3-4 years of studying), and Doctor of Science (3-4
years of studying).
Volgograd State Social Pedagogical University consists of the following

Since the time the university was founded it has prepared thousands of teachers
and has become one of the greatest scientific centers of methodical and pedagogical
activities in our country. Volgograd State Social Pedagogical University is wellknown not only in Russia, but in other countries as well. Many students from

1. Find out the information of the Institute
In October 1979 a new faculty
“Pedagogy and Methods of Primary Education”
was opened on basis of Industrial Pedagogical
School of Volgograd State Pedagogical
Institute.
In December 1989, the democratic
elections of Dean were held. Doctor of
Science, a professor of Pedagogy and Psychology of Primary Education Department
Svetlana Yarikova was elected as the first dean. Several departments had been
established: Pedagogy of Pre-school Education, Pedagogy of Primary Education,
Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the Russian Language and Methods of its
Teaching at Primary School.
In 1989 the faculty introduced some additional educational programs for
Social Pedagogy, Psychology, Foreign Language, and Music Education. On basis of

these additional specializations new specialties were
opened – “Speech Therapy” and “Pedagogy and
Psychology”.
By 2004, the faculty had already had two large
branches: part-time (1.200 students) and full-time
(1.050 students), 7 departments of training in eight
specialties of full-time and nine specialties of parttime branches.
In September 2004 the Faculty of Pedagogy and Methods of Primary
Education and Pre-school Education was transformed into the Institute of Pre-school,
Primary Education and Special Pedagogy with two departments: the Faculty of Preschool and Primary Education and the Faculty of Social and Correctional Pedagogy.
The institute co-operates with several educational institutions of Volgograd
and Volgograd Region, and several Russian and international universities.
Now there are a lot of different programs of education at the institute:

1. Find out the information of the Institute
The Institute of Arts Education consists of the
department of Painting and Graphics and the department of
Music Education. The Institute was founded in 2004.
Students of the Institute can receive such specialties as
“a teacher of Music”, “a teacher of Arts”, “a designer”, “an
artist” and “a pencil artist”. There are full-time and part-time
departments at the Institute.
A teaching staff of the Institute consists of graduates of
the leading higher educational establishments of Arts and
Music Education. There are Candidates, Doctors of
Pedagogical Science, professors, members of Russian Artists’ Union and Russian
Designers’ Union, Honoured Artists of Russia and laureates of All-Russia and
International Music Competitions.
The Institute of Arts Education has its own building in Barrikadnaya Street.
There is a concert hall, workshops of ceramics and sculpture where students are able
to do their practical works. There are also workshops of drawing and painting at the
department of Painting and Graphics. Students’ concerts of Music Education
department are held in Assembly Hall of VSSPU in the main building of our
university.
Creative and research activities are carried out at the Institute. Students and
their teachers take an active part in culture life of Volgograd and the Russian
Federation: in concerts, All-Russia and international art exhibitions, music contests
and so on.
