ВВЕДЕНИЕ

Настоящее пособие, разработанное на кафедре иностранных языков в профессиональной коммуникации ФГБОУ ВО «КНИТУ», рассчитано на магистрантов и аспирантов для широкого профиля подготовки по направлению «Конфликтология», изучающих дисциплины «Иностранный язык (английский)» и «Деловой иностранный язык (английский)» согласно требованиям федеральных государственных образовательных стандартов нового поколения, а также студентов гуманитарных специальностей, получающих дополнительную квалификацию «Переводчик в сфере профессиональной коммуникации». Кроме того, оно может представлять интерес для специалистов, занимающихся переводом научной литературы.

Пособие содержит аутентичные тексты на английском языке, посвященные профессиональной деятельности конфликтолога, представленные в виде девяти учебных тем. В каждой теме содержатся оригинальные тексты по конфликтологии и социологии, к которым разработаны задания на закрепление лексического материала, включающего научную терминологию, развитие навыков перевода с русского языка на английский и наоборот, совершенствование навыков устной и письменной речи, необходимой в ситуациях делового и профессионального общения. В каждой теме представлены упражнения на развитие творческого мышления и навыков иноязычной коммуникации в профессиональной сфере.

Отличительной чертой настоящей учебной дисциплины является то, что она дает магистрам возможность углубить свои научные знания, приобрести умение самостоятельно работать над источниками, готовиться и вести дискуссию, а также умело отстаивать свои взгляды. Пособие является полезным как для аудиторных занятий, так и для самостоятельной работы.

WHAT IS CONFLICT?

In the modern world we face an enormous number of conflicts in all spheres of social life. People want to know why conflicts happen in the family. They want to know why political parties and states have conflicts. They ask what they can do about conflicts prevention, management and resolution of social microconflicts, such as interpersonal, labor, industrial, intra-organizational and other types of conflicts.

Conflict is a natural thing in our life. Conflicts happen because people are different: they want different things, they have different ideas and their values are different. Very often people have conflicts because they do not listen to each other well. They think about what they want to say and don’t really hear what the other person is saying.

Conflict is an antagonism between individuals or groups in society. Conflict may take two forms. One occurs when there is a clash of interests between two or more individuals or groups; the other happens when people engage in active struggle with one another. So conflicts may lead to fights, deterioration of relations and violence. Interest conflict does not always lead to open struggle, while active conflicts may sometimes occur between parties. If conflicts happen between parties and states, they can lead to war. That is why people should try to prevent conflicts.

But it is impossible to prevent all conflicts. Every day you are in contact with people whose values are different from yours. And you have the right to disagree with their values. But you should understand that other people also have the right to be different from you. You must respect the right of other people to have ideas that differ from your ideas. People who respect the right each other’s ideas can resolve conflicts in a peaceful way. If people resolve conflicts peacefully, they will have better relations in the future. That is why many people want to learn about everyday life conflicts

and means of their resolution. Also, they expect the professionals to be able to carry out conflict research and implement conflict management techniques, as well as to negotiate agreements and socially secure ways of resolving conflicts.

Hello. I’m very glad to meet you. My name is… I’m a graduate student at the Social and Political Conflict Studies Department at the Faculty of Social &Technical Systems of the Kazan National Research Technological University.

Last year, I got my Bachelor’s degree in Conflict Studies with honor. My research interests are conflicts in school. I chose this specialty because it is well suited to my interest.

Now I’m an MA student (Master of Arts) in Conflict Studies at KNRTU. The program is aimed to train specialists in different conflict area, who would have a comprehensive knowledge and skills in conflict prevention, management and resolution. The uniqueness of the program is in its practical orientation towards training professionals in the areas of conflict prevention, management and resolution of social microconflicts, such as interpersonal, labor, industrial, intra-organizational and other types of conflicts.

Masters program graduates can implement their knowledge in the different fields that require conflict resolution – banks, insurance companies, municipal and state agencies, commerce and education. The graduates of the program can also apply for the Department’s PhD program.

I pursue research in conflict studies. My research supervisor is Ivanov D.I. Associate Professor at the Conflict Studies department. He earned his Ph.D. Degree in Sociology from KNRTU in 2007. I always consult him when I encounter difficulties in my research.

I think the problem that I deal with, is very important nowadays.

I take part in various scientific conferences where I make reports on my subject and participate in scientific discussions and debates. I’m planning to finish writing my thesis by the end of the next year.
