1. Control of imported foodstuffs

One of the principal duties of the port health authority is the inspection of all foodstuffs entering the port. А fully qualified staff is stationed in each dock group and а constant watch is kept on foodstuffs during discharge for evidence of spoi1age during transit and again while they remain stored in the dock warehouses, for any deterioration there. Where necessary, samples are drawn for submission to the public analyst or bacteriologist. Special attention is given to the examination of meat and, with the co-operation of the Port of London Authorities, an up-to-date meat inspection room is installed on the top floor of the principal cold store in the Royal Dock Group.

Амстердам, 3 октября 20 . . . г.

1. Immigration Service

The Immigration Service or as it is familiarly known on the River Thames "Immigration" forms part of the Aliens Department of the Home Office. The headquarters of the London District is in the port of London, and this covers all landing places from the Nore to Teddington. There are sections at Gravesend and Southend responsible for the seaward reaches of the river. The main function of the Immigration Service is to prevent aliens entering this country from abroad, and to regulate the immigration of aliens. The Service obviously works in the closest liaison with Н. М. Customs, and the River and Port of London Authority Police Forces.
