MAJOR STAGES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF HYDRODYNAMICAL WELL LOGGING AND FORMATION TESTING WITH WIRELINE FORMATION TESTERS

Chronologically, all stages of the Soviet/Russian manufacturing of well logging tools for direct logs have been considered: wireline formation testers (OPK) and wireline hydrodynamical well logging tools (GDK). Since 1959 and up to the latest days, the history of the development of this trend in the USSR and Russian Federation has been created just by VUF VNIIgeofiziki and ОАО NPP VNIIGIS OJSC. Dozens of GDK and OPK tool types designed for oil, gas, coal and water horizons have been developed. Totally, over 1,000 wells were tested and logged. Our methods compete with new developments of leading western geophysical companies on a price/quality criterion.

EXPERIENCE ON APPLICATION OF NEUTRON LOGS FOR RESERVOIR SATURATION TYPING WHILE DRILLING

Pilot industry tests of combined logging tools for neutron gamma-ray (NGK) and compensated double-sonde neutron-neutron log (2NNK), electrical measure ments or resistivity log (KS) and gamma ray (GK) - all included in a combined tool for drilling horizontal wells - have been conducted. The last two logs have been included into the above-bit module (NDM) with the minimum distance of 40 -50 cm. The neutron log module is 18 m away from the bit and occupies the end of the assembly - which allows an easy recovering it from the drilling tool in emergency. The first results of measurements by the neutron log module have been obtained. The NGK, 2NNK, KS and GK log set data processing and interpretation results have been used to type the saturation and evaluate the hydrocarbon saturation.

A NOVEL TECHNOLOGY FOR BYPASSED-OIL SEARCH BY A WELL-TO-WELL DIFFERENT-AMPLITUDE SEISMOACOUSTIC SOUNDING

A novel technology to detect less permeable, non-drainable zones of the pro ductive formation (using a unique inverse relationship of the longitudinal wave propagation velocity versus its amplitude preset by a microseismoacoustic source in the non-linear region) has been proposed. With a very low stimulation of the longitudinal wave in the non-linear region, elevation of its amplitude in the permeable formation lowers its propagation velocity because of a viscous inertial bias of the pore fluid relative to the rock matrix. The technology has been proved both theoretically and at the laboratory. It has also been validated by field tests in an oil bed above and below the water-oil contact (i. e., in the oil-saturated and injection-water washed-out formation regions). The second

search indication of the technology is the amplitude and frequency spectra of the longitudinal waves.

D E TE R M IN A TIO N OF THE H Y D R O D Y N A M IC A L CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ROCKS BY THEIR N A T U R A L S TR E S S E D -S TA TE “M EM O RY"

A novel method for the determination of the hydrodynamical characteristics of the rocks (on the core adjusted to in situ pressure in the wet/dry pressure cham ber) has been proposed. The method is based on the recovery of the natural stressed-state of the rock which occurred in situ from the rock “memory” The method works by picking up the elastic wave propagation time vs core pore pressure with its loading rate not exceeding the plastic deformation relaxation one, and followed by the subsequent evaluation of a formation hydrofrac pres sure, rock yield stress and maximum admissible formation depression.
