3.1. Information system of Contos Ltd.

The information system contains several tables that are stored in Access and Excel.

The tables (tab.1) contain informations about:

sales,

stores,

date,

amount and cost,

channel of sales,

product,

entity,

promotion,

and geography.

Example of table you can see on the Fig. 5.

Contoso management company does not have the same place all the detailed information.

Contoso has very good potential but unused data. Between the data in tables are missing relations. Lack of access to information meant delay and lack of information for decision-making. Design reports was very simple and did not provide important information for decision-making. You can see example in the Fig. 6.

3.2. Design of dashboard in Excel 2013

Excel is an electronic spreadsheet program that can use for storing, organizing and manipulating data. You can see the architecture in Excel 2013 on the Fig. 7.

With the inclusion of PowerPivot and Power View, Microsoft Excel 2013 is a first-class business intelligence (BI) tool that's capable of storing, processing, and visualizing vast amounts of data.

Power Pivot is a supplement that allows end users to collect, store, model and analyze large amounts of data in Excel. Power View provides intuitive data visualization [7].

What BI capabilities are available in Excel?

In Excel 2013, you can perform a wide range of tasks–from getting data to creating reports–as part of your organization’s BI solution. The following table summarizes the powerful BI capabilities that are available in Excel.

You can connect to a variety of external data sources in your workbook, such as SQL Server tables, SQL Server Analysis Services cubes, Microsoft Azure data, OData data, and more.

You can also create a Data Model to combine one or more tables of data into a single data source that you can use to create reports, including views that you create by using Power View.

You can add slicers, timeline controls, and filters to worksheets to make it easier to focus on more specific information and another.

The maximum limit for Excel 2013:

The 32-bit environment, in the case of the virtual address space that is shared Excel workbook and accessories running in the same process applies limit 2 gigabytes Share data model to address space can reach 500 to 700 megabytes (MB), but in the case of load other data models and accessories could be less.

The 64-bit environment shall not apply to any strict file size limits. Workbook size is limited only by available memory and system resources [8].

I loaded all the tables in to the Power Pivot. Using primary and foreign keys, I have created relationships between tables, which are shown in figure 8. In the center is the fact table, which contains important data about the sale, the most important data are sales amount and total cost. Other dimensional tables complement the only fact table.

I choosed gross profit from key performace indikation, because is very important indicator by business. Key pe rformance indikations grouped into a business dashboard to show compa ny health. I counted a gross profit form as the deference between sales a mount and total cost. I searched the country, which had of the highest profit.

At first dashboard (Fig. 9) shown t hree continets and their gross profit. North America had the largest share of profit, but profit fell approximately by 260 million between 2007 and 200 8 and constantly decreased, but not as rapidly. Asia is the only country in w hich profits were growing but were lower. Europe has a negative trend but I am looking for a country with the largest profit.

I used the filters, when I made next dasboard (Fig. 10). This Dasboard shown the countries that had the largest profits in Asia. China is the most profitable and the profits is growing at approx imately 20 to 30 million euro.

The last dasboard shown that Unite d States had the largest profit from another country, but every year was lower. Dasboards are interaktiv. You can clik on the bubbles and you can see the name of country, continent and sum of gross profit.

4. Evaluation of the benefits of diploma thesis

The first benefit is that all the data are in the same database and clearly organized.

Increasing the availability of information speed up decision-making at all levels of the organization.

Better and faster access to data and information will enable manager to make better choices and decisions need to be adopted quickly and based on facts. By creating relationships between tables can make better use of all the data is from the database and are used to obtain objective and accurate information helpful in better and faster decisions.

The company has access to relevant, understandable and yet comprehensive information in a format accessible to users and solutions that will facilitate further analysis and identification of trends.

Conclusion

My diploma thesis describe of the issue Business Intelligence as a process of transforming data into information and knowledge, dimensional model and dataminig. Next part I analyzed data from the Contoso Ltd. I designed dashboard in the Excel 2013. Excel 2013 is very good program for small and medium firm, which want to improve design and better prezentation key performance indikations.

Желание углубить знания и навыки в данном вопросе стало причиной выбора именно этой темы.

MOBILE APPLICATION FOR QUALITY CONTROL

OF NEWSPRINT

Abstract. The article deals with the problem of detection specks newsprint. The solution to this problem is proposed mobile application for Android and IOS, which can be installed on all corporate smart phone or tablet and allows each employee to contribute to the improvement of the quality of newsprint. Approved algorithms are described for each phase of a computer program to detection specks. Reviewed various methods of identification. Experiment results carried of the computer program on samples paper.

Introduction

At present pulp and paper enterprises carry out quality control of paper. Quality control is performed for all kinds of paper: office paper, printing paper and cardboard, including quality control of newsprint [5]. This article discusses one of the main indicators of quality of newsprint like specks. Specks it is heterogeneity of structure of the paper, which is formed during its manufacture due to contact with the pulp particles of bark, mineral and chemical impurities [3]. When determining the quality of the paper its speck is counted. It is done by hand at pulp and paper enterprises. Laboratory assistant takes several samples of paper. Then he takes a transparent pattern with different shapes and areas specks. And laboratory assistant determines the imposition pattern on sample for every specks. This process is quite laborious. This method of calculating the specks takes a very long time. And turns large measurement error in combined of these problems. If the problem is not solved, then a flaw of paper appears. Therefore, a loss of profit for the enterprise.

1. Objectives

For a typical method is characteristic by large measurement error count and time expenditures and laborious process of definition specks. Therefore, the purpose was set: automation of the process of products specks definition in the pulp and paper industry, aimed at reducing defects of finished products and production processes complexity. Also, one of the purpose of this study is to examine the possible applications of mobile applications.

2. Methodology

In the last decade, there is rapidly developing areas of electronic identification and authentication, in which t he collection of information occurs with minimum human involvement. Fig ure 1 shows the current methods of identification and authentication.

Consider in more detail the meth ods of identification. Barcodes are mainly used by manufacturers of prod ucts for the product distribution automation. Currently barcodes EAN/UPC underlie worldwide multicommunication system, the development of which is provided by the two largest specialized international organi zations EAN International and the AIM International. In RFID – Radio Frequency Identification Device – developers have tried to develop all th e advantages of bar code identification and overcome almost all the shortcomings and limitations.

At present the technology is rapidly being implemented in many sectors of the world economy. RFID provides i nformation about the subject without direct contact. Distance, which can be read and record information, may vary from a few millimeters to several meters depending on the technology used. Biometric identification is based on the statistical analysis using of biological observations and phenomena. Biometrics is a measurable physiological or behavioral trait of a person. Magnetic stripe cards for more than two decades are used in physical access control. Magnetic cards are activated during a certain direction at a certain speed and on through the slot [4].
