2.8.1\ Scanning Method

Patient should be on fast for 8–12 h with a supine position. Right subcostal scanning is performed. Transverse scanning of the CBD should be performed. Probe should be put transversely in high right lower left. Patient can be in full inspiration to make the left liver lobe go down as an acoustic window.

2.8.2\ Section Structure

Major area: The transverse plane of the distal common bile duct posterior-most aspect of the pancreatic head. Ancillary areas—long axial section of the spleen vein and transverse section of the abdominal aorta and superior mesenteric artery, superior mesenteric vein, inferior vena cava, gastric-duodenum artery, and gastric antrum.

2.8.3\ Measuring Method and Normal

Measuring diameter of the common bile duct in this segment is more accurate. Normal is about 0.3–0.6 cm. That the inner diameter is 0.6–0.8 cm

will be as the critical value. Internal diameter of >0.8 cm is as abnormal.

2.8.4\ Clinical Application Value

Transverse section of the common bile duct is more clear in showing lesion in it as well as around it than longitudinal section. This section can also be used to show the close relationship between and pancreatic head, to judge the obstruction segment of the common bile duct. To observe the close relationship between the lesion and the common bile duct as well as between the lesion and the pancreatic head. Dilation of common bile duct upper pancreas segment indicates that pancreas tic segment of is common bile duct obstruction. If the superior pancreas and posterior pancreas segment of the common bile duct are dilated, common bile duct obstruction at the level of the end segment or the duodenal ampulla will be indicted.
