7  Vascular System Scanning

193

3.13.1\ Scanning Method

The patient takes a supine position, the leg outreaches and spins, and the knee bends. The probe is placed on the groin region and scans along the superficial femoral vein; the superficial femoral vein in the upper position is shallow.

3.13.2\ Sectional Structure

The wall of the superficial femoral vein is thin, within the lumen of venous bulking the vein valves open and close, the inner diameter can change with breathing (the diameter of the lower limb vein increases after deep breathing or Valsalva test), the superficial femoral vein and

the superficial femoral artery line from the cross section, the superficial femoral vein locates behind the superficial femoral artery, the lumen of the superficial vein is oval, and its lumen can become flat by the probe pressure.

3.13.3\ Measurement Methods

The inner diameter of the superficial femoral vein and blood flow spectrum.

3.13.4\ Clinical Significance

To diagnose thrombosis, arteriovenous fistula, venous tumor, lower limb venous valvular insufficiency of the superficial femoral vein, etc.

3.14.1\ Scanning Method

The patient takes a supine position, the leg outreaches and spins, and the knee bends. The probe is placed in the groin region. It scans along the superficial femoral vein, and the superficial femoral vein in the upper position is shallow.

3.14.2\ Sectional Structure

The wall of the superficial femoral vein is thin, within the lumen of venous bulking the vein valves open and close, the inner diameter can change with breathing (the diameter of the lower limb vein increases after deep breathing or Valsalva test), the superficial femoral vein and

the superficial femoral artery line from the cross section, the superficial femoral vein locates behind the superficial femoral artery, the lumen of the superficial vein is oval, and its lumen can be compressed under the probe pressure.

3.14.3\ Measurement Methods

The inner diameter of the superficial femoral vein and blood flow spectrum.

3.14.4\ Clinical Significance

To diagnose thrombosis, arteriovenous fistula, venous tumor, lower limb venous valvular insufficiency of the superficial femoral vein, etc.

3.15\ Longitudinal Scanning

of the Popliteal Vein

POV

POA

Fig. 7.48  Longitudinal view of the popliteal vein

3.15.1\ Scanning Method

The patient takes a prone position; the probe is placed in the popliteal space.

3.15.2\ Sectional Structure

The popliteal artery and the popliteal vein stand side by side on the cross section, the lumen of the popliteal vein is oval, and its lumen can be crushed flat under the probe pressure. The longitudinal section shows the long axis of the popliteal vein.

3.15.3\ Measurement Methods

The inner diameter of the popliteal vein.

3.15.4\ Clinical Significance

To judge whether there is stenosis, thrombosis, or arteriovenous fistula in the common femoral artery, superficial femoral artery, and deep femoral artery and diagnose popliteal vein thrombosis, arteriovenous fistula, venous tumor, lower limb venous valvular insufficiency, etc.
