2.26.1\ Scanning Methods

The patient lies supine or on the left-anterior position. The transducer is placed in the subxiphoid (subcostal) area with the ultrasound beam pointing towards the back and the transducer being rotated in a sagittal plane on the base of subcostal two-atrium view.

2.26.2\ Section Structure

Entrances of superior and inferior vena cava into right atrium are shown in this view.

2.26.3\ Measuring Method and Normal Value

Diameters of superior and inferior vena cava measured under normal respiration are 12 ± 6 and 14 ± 7 mm.

2.26.4\ The Clinical Application Value

This view can be used to diagnose the pathologic changes in superior and inferior vena cava, such as caval thrombus.
