4.37.1\ Scanning Method

Scanning is performed on a large scale on the maternal abdominal wall to find out the anechoic amniotic regions and to observe their distribution and internal echoes.

4.37.2\ Section Structures

Amniotic fluid is shown as irregular anechoic region in the uterine cavity, distributed around the fetus.

4.37.3\ Measuring Method

Deepest volume pool (of amniotic fluid): find the largest and deepest section of amniotic volume pool with the most consistent size in width and

depth and measure the largest depth that is perpendicular to horizontal plane.

4.37.4\ Clinical Significance

Changes of amniotic volume maybe related to fetal anomalies or malformations of digestive system and urinary system.

4.37.5\ Normal Reference Values

It is normal when the deepest volume pool is between 20 and 80 mm. Oligohydramnios is diagnosed when the deepest volume pool is smaller than 20 mm. Polyhydramnios is diagnosed when the deepest volume pool is larger than 80 mm.
