4.18.1\ Scanning Method

The transverse section is the same as the four- chamber view section of the heart, and the sagittal section is in the same direction as the fetal long axis. Coronary section is acquired when necessary.

4.18.2\ Section Structures

The transverse section of fetal lungs and the heart are shown. Fetal lungs are shown as triangular medium or highly echoic structures, located at the two sides of the heart.

4.18.3\ Clinical Significance

This section can be used to investigate the development of fetal lungs and to diagnose thoracic malformations such as congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation, pulmonary sequestration, diaphragmatic hernia, etc.

4.19.1\ Scanning Method

The probe is moved through the fetal body, to acquire the fetal coronary section which is in the same direction as the fetal long axis.

4.19.2\ Section Structures

The main visceral organs, such as the liver, stomach bubble, bowel, bladder, etc., are shown (Fig. 13.33). The stomach bubble becomes full or

empty with the changes of fetal swallow activities. The bladder becomes bigger or smaller before or after urinating.

4.19.3\ Clinical Significance

To investigate the situs and development of viscera.
