2.1.1\ Scanning Method

The patient should be fasted for more than 8 h, and should be in a supine position. The probe is placed vertically 1–2 cm to the left of the

midsagittal line just below the xyphoid process. When the long-axis view of the Ao is shown, the celiac artery (CA) arises from the anterior wall of the Ao. Pressure may be needed in obese patients.

2.1.2\ Section Structure

CA, AA, SMA, left lobe of the liver.

2.1.3\ Measurement Method and Normal Value

The diameter of the CA should be measured on this view; the mean diameter is 0.79 ± 0.19 cm, and the length of the CA is 0.5–3 cm.

2.1.4\ Clinical Application Value

A stenosis of the CA usually lies at the beginning of the artery. On the long-axis view, both the artery wall and the residual lumen of the artery can be evaluated. A color Doppler flow image can provide information on the stenosis with color aliasing. There is no blood signal in the CA if the lumen is occluded.

2.1.5\ Notice

The CA lies deeply, so the structure of the artery wall cannot be shown in detail; thus, the diagnosis of a stenosis is mainly based on a spectrum analysis instead of measurement of the residual lumen.
