5.14.1\ Scanning Method

The patient should accept cleanning enema and drink 800–1000 mL of water quickly to fill colon. Right abdomen scanning should be performed with the patient in a supine position. The transducer is put vertically to the right lower abdomen.

5.14.2\ Section Structure

Longitudinal section of the ascending colon. The mucous surface is smooth. Folds which are between two haustra of the colon, are a landmark of the colon. The shape of the transverse colon

and the descending colon is the same as the ascending colon.

5.14.3\ Measuring Method and Normal

Measuring colon wall thickness and diameter of the intestinal tract. Thickness of the normal colon wall is approximately less than 4 mm, and larger than 5 mm is abnormal.

5.14.4\ Clinical Application Value

This plane can be used for the diagnosis of tumor, hypertrophy, and obstruction of the colon.

5.15.1\ Scanning Method

The patient should have a cleaning enema and a full bladder as an acoustic window with a supine position. The probe is placed transversely to the interior abdomen superior margin of the pubic symphysis.

5.15.2\ Section Structure

Transverse section of the superior segment of the rectum which is shown as an oval ringlike structure. Transverse section of bladder oblique section of the prostate (male) of uterus (female).

5.15.3\ Measuring Method and Normal

Measuring the thickness of the rectum. The single wall thickness of the rectum should be less than 0.4 cm, and double layer thickness should be less than 0.8 cm.

5.15.4\ Clinical Application Value

This section can be used for diagnosis of spaceoccupying lesions, wall thickness lesions as well as the lesions near the rectum.
