5.2.1\ Scanning Method

The patient should be on fast for 8–12 hour with a supine position. The probe is put transversely to subxiphoid and oblique slightly to the left superior-posterior.

5.2.2\ Section Structure

Transverse section of the lower segment of the esophagus, stomach bottom, left lobe of the liver, inferior vena cava, and aorta is displayed in this section.

5.2.3\ Measuring Method and Normal

Measuring the thickness of the esophageal wall. Single esophagus wall thickness should be less than 0.4 cm, and double layer should be less than 0.8 cm.

5.2.4\ Clinical Application Value

Observing the mucous membrane surface and every layer of the esophagus and bottom of the stomach wall. Observing bounder of the lower segment of the esophageal and tissue around it.

5.3.1\ Scanning Method

The patient should be on fast for 8–12 h with a supine position. The oblique probe is put to the left upper abdomen, almost parallel to the left subcostal margin. The patient must drink 800– 1000 mL of water to fill the stomach. The scan must be operated by probe along the long axis direction of the stomach obliquely placed in the upper abdomen.

5.3.2\ Section Structure

Major area: short axis section of the stomach body. Anterior wall and posterior wall.

Ancillary areas: transverse section of the abdominal aorta, superior mesenteric artery, superior mesenteric vein, and inferior vena cava.

5.3.3\ Measuring Method and Normal

Measuring gastric wall thickness. Thickness of the normal stomach is approximately 3–5 mm, and greater than 6 mm is thought to be abnormal.

5.3.4\ Clinical Application Value

Observing the anterior wall and posterior wall of the stomach body. Observing the greater curvature and lesser curvature of the stomach.
