8  The Digestive System Organ Scanning

303

4.4.1\ Scanning Method

The patient should be on fast for 8–12 h, with a right lateral decubitus position; probe is put in the left ninth, tenth, or eleventh intercostal spaces. The probe moves down next to the coastal space after showing the standard longitudinal plane of the spleen.

4.4.2\ Section Structure

The oblique section of the left kidney and the spleen is displayed.

4.4.3\ Clinical application value

The location relationship between the spleen and left kidney is observed. The spleen interior surface is close to the upper pole of the left kidney. The left adrenal gland or retroperitoneal placeholder lesions can increase the distance between the spleen and left kidney.

4.5.1\ Scanning Method

The patient should be on fast for 8–12 hours with a supine position. Oblique scanning should be performed; the splenic vein can be shown behind the body and tail of the pancreas. Filling the stomach by drinking water as an acoustic window may be useful for full visualization.

4.5.2\ Section structure

Major area: long axial section of the spleen vein and the pancreatic tail.

Ancillary areas: transverse section of the abdominal aorta and superior mesenteric artery, superior mesenteric vein, inferior vena cava, and left kidney.

4.5.3\ Measuring Method and Normal

Measuring the diameter of the splenic vein.

4.5.4\ Clinical Application Value

We can understand whether the splenic vein has a dilation or thrombus by this plane.

4.6\ The Blood Flow Waveform

of the Splenic Artery

Fig. 8.53  The blood flow spectrum of the splenic artery

4.6.1\ Scanning Method

The patient should be on fast for 8–12 h with a supine position. Transverse scanning is performed by subxiphoid to the upper abdomen. The splenic artery can be shown along the posteriorsuperior margin of the pancreas. The Doppler sample is placed in the splenic artery, and the angle between the acoustic beam and the vessel should be less than 60°.

4.6.2\ Section Structure

The blood flow spectrum of the splenic artery.

4.6.3\ Measuring Method and Normal

Measuring the velocity of the splenic artery.

4.6.4\ Clinical Application Value

Observing whether the splenic vein has a dilation or thrombus.
