The Present Simple (Indefinite) Tense – настоящее неопределённое время употребляется для выражения действия обычного, постоянного, повторяющегося, происходящего в настоящее время, не соотнесенного с моментом речи:
I go to the University on foot. |
The lectures at the University begin at 9 o’clock. |
Я хожу в университет пешком. |
Лекции в университете начинаются в 9 часов. |
Обычный, повторяющийся характер действия обуславливает использование таких наречий, как always (всегда), often (часто), seldom (редко), usually (обычно), never (никогда), sometimes (иногда), every day (каждый день) и т.д. В предложении они стоят между подлежащим и смысловым глаголом:
Twice a year students take their exams. |
Дважды в год студенты сдают экзамены. |
Утвердительная форма образуется путём постановки личной формы инфинитива без частицы to после подлежащего. Однако, если подлежащее стоит в форме третьего лица единственного числа (т.е. выражено местоимениями he, she, it или его можно заменить этими местоимениями), то глагол принимает окончание -s или -es, которое образуется и читается по тем же правилам, что и окончание множественного числа имен существительных:
My friend lives in a hostel. |
The school year begins in September. |
Мой друг живёт в общежитии. |
Учебный год начинается в сентябре. |
Вопросительная форма образуется при помощи вспомогательного глагола do, который в третьем лице единственного числа имеет форму does и инфинитива смыслового глагола без частицы to. В вопросительной форме вспомогательный глагол ставится перед подлежащим, за которым следует смысловой глагол:
Do you speak English well? |
Yes, I do. |
Ты хорошо говоришь по-английски? |
Да. |
В отрицательной форме отрицание not ставиться после вспомогательного глагола. В разговорной речи обычно употребляется сокращённая форма от do not – don’t и does not – doesn’t:
The students do not go to the library every day. |
The computer doesn't work. |
Студенты не ходят в библиотеку каждый день. |
Компьютер не работает. |
Глагол to be не нуждается во вспомогательных глаголах для образования отрицательной и вопросительной форм настоящего неопределенного времени:
