Summary

Jack and Jill are at home. They are playing Ludo. The children are quarreling. Jack is winning and Jill is losing the game. She's crying. She thinks that Ludo is a silly game.

In the afternoon they are going to the toy museum. It's a funny museum. The children can see a teddy bear, a rocking horse and dolls there. But they like the dolls' house best.

They can see the cats' family. Mother Cat is reading the paper. Father Cat is making a cake. Kate is washing her hands and Tom is playing the drums. What a funny family! Grandpa ['græn'pa:] Cat is fixing his motorbike behind the house. Jack and Jill are going home by motorbike. They like their visit to the toy museum very much.

8. A train ride

Helen: Hello, everybody! Welcome to Playtime.

Jill: Hello, children!

Jack: Hi, children!

Helen: What's the time?

Jill: It's playtime…

Helen: Yes, you're [jɔ:] right, Jill. It's playtime. But what's the time on the clock? It's 9 o'clock.

What's going on here? Ah, I see. Jack and Jill are packing their suitcases. Jack is closing his suitcase. Let me help you, Jill.

Look, this is a suitcase. Here are Jill's pyjamas. And here's a toothbrush. These are Jill's jeans, a T-shirt and a pullover.

Look, I'm putting Jill's jeans, T-shirts and pullover into the suitcase. Here you are, Jill. Your suitcase is ready.

And what about Jack? Are you ready, Jack?

Jack: Yes, I am.

Helen: Good. Jack and Jill are going on holiday.

They're [ðeə] visiting Grandpa ['græn'pa:] in Scotland. And they're [ðeə] going to Scotland by train.

Conjugation of the verb "to be" (быть):

I am (I'm) we are (we're [wɪə])

Exercise 1. Translate into Russian:

Jill: Thank you.

Jack: Where are the tickets?

Helen: Here are the tickets from London to Edinburgh12 in Scotland. Here you are, Jack. Catch!

Be careful and have a nice time in Scotland!

Helen: Now look and listen to Jack and Jill.

Jack: "Ghosts in Scotland".

Jill: What's the time?

Jack: It's 12 o'clock.

Learn the idiom:

Jill: Look out of the window, Jack. There is a river. There are boats on the river. We are going over a bridge. Are you hungry, Jack?

Jack: No, I'm not… You are silly!

Guard: Hello. Tickets, please.

Jack: Where are the tickets? Have you got the tickets, Jill?

Jill: No, I haven't. You've got them.

Jack: I can't find the tickets.

Jill: Are they in your book?

Jack: No, they are not.

Jill: Look under your raincoat.

Jack: I can't find the tickets.

Jill: Here they are. In your cap.

Guard: Thank you. Ah, you are going to Edinburgh. What are you doing there?

Jack: We are visiting Grandpa.

Guard: Well, have a good time.

Jack: Thank you.

Jill: Look, Jack! A castle.

Jack: A castle? Where?

Jill: You can't see the castle now. We are going through a tunnel.

Jack: It's a long tunnel. Where is the castle?

Jill: There it is. Behind you.

Jack: It's Edinburgh castle.

Guard: Come along, children. The train is arriving in 5 minutes.

Jill: Where's Grandpa? Hello, Grandpa!

Helen: Goodbye, children. See you next Playtime.
