When users select the table view, the Need Date attribute will now display as a column in the My Tasks table.

For Windchill Solutions with Products and Libraries

The following best practices are recommended for Windchill solutions that use products and libraries.

Setting Object Initialization Rules

The object initialization rules include the ability to set default values and display characteristics for the following attributes:

Folder paths

Default life cycle template

Default team template

Default numbering scheme

Default version scheme

Additionally, rules can be used to set the following:

Available life cycle templates

Attribute values

Display characteristics for other attributes

Although these rules can be set for individual product and library contexts, PTC recommends that you set them at either the organization or site level so that an entire organization or site is using the same set of rules. This promotes reuse and reduces unnecessary duplication at lower context levels.

For more information, see the Object Initialization Rules chapter of the PTC Windchill Specialized Administration Guide.

Setting Up Enhanced Life Cycle Templates

The Product Design template introduces default settings different from those established out-of-the-box at the site level. The out-of-the-box Product Design template includes object initialization rules that set simplified life cycle templates and versioning schemes for the following objects:

Parts

Documents

CAD Documents

Unless you have overriding business practices that require unique rules, PTC recommends that if you want to use these features, you modify the site object initialization rules and remove them from the Product Design template.

Overriding and Reassigning Life Cycle and Team Templates

The life cycle and team templates for objects such as parts and documents can be manually selected during object creation. For existing objects, life cycles can be reassigned and team templates can be reset.

For more information, including the preferences used to enable this functionality, see Overriding and Reassigning Life Cycle and Team Templates on page 328

Enabling Set Revision While Creating a New Object

You can enable the revision of a part or document to be set when the part or document is created.

Note

This functionality can be enabled at either the site or organization level.

To enable this functionality, add the Revision attribute to the Create New Layout for the object. Click the edit icon next to Revision in the layout, and set the value of the Data Utility Id property to revisionPicker The Revision field will now display for all users on the object creation window. For more information on attribute layouts, see the Type and Attribute Management help in the Windchill Help Center.

To limit the set of users who have the ability to set the revision on a part or document when the object is created:

1. Create a profile which includes the Restricted Directory Search attribute on the

Set Attribute Visibility step.

2.Set the constraint for the Restricted Directory Search attribute to Hide Attribute in the Global Attributes table.

3.Add all users to the profile for which you want to hide the Revision attribute.

4.Create a second profile which includes the Restricted Directory Search attribute on the Set Attribute Visibility step.

5.Set the constraint for the Restricted Directory Search attribute to Edit Attribute in the Global Attributes table.

6.Add the users or groups to the Profile Members table for which you want to expose the Revision label.

The Revision field will now display on the object creation window only for the specified set of users. For more information on creating and managing profiles, see the Profiles help in the Windchill Help Center.
