APPLIED COMPUTER SCIENCE IN ECONOMICS (010502)

Bryansk State Technical University was founded in 1929 on the basis of the Bezhitsa workers’ faculty as a higher technical institution of a new type. Now there are 4 departments at the University, which have over 25 specialities. “Applied Computer Science in Economics” is one of the specialities of the economics and computer science department. The term of studying at this speciality lasts 5 years. Studying at this speciality provides the preparation of the specialists-economists in different branches of engineering on organisational, economical and administrative subjects. After graduating a specialist receives a qualification of an “economist-computer-scientist” and can work in various organisations and their structural subdivisions, at the enterprises of different fields, in commercial and non-profit banks, funds, organs of state and administrative services.

The chair “Economics, Organisation of Production and Management” was established in 1996. The organiser and the founder of the chair is Professor, Doctor of Philosophy (Economics), honoured economist of Russia V.V. Odinochenkov.

During the years of its existence the chair has trained many specialists. At present about 250 students are being trained at this speciality. It is very urgent and vital for our national economy therefore our country needs such economists badly.

Since 1998 the chair has become the basic one for the speciality “Information Systems in Economics” and since 2000 this speciality was renamed into “Applied Computer Science in Economics”. This speciality trains the specialists-economists for the professional activity in economic and administrative fields. Much emphasis is laid on creating and applying computer information systems to solve complex problems in these and those spheres of national economy.

Studying at this speciality makes it possible to train personnel possessing special profound knowledge in economics, management, marketing, accounting, auditing, finance, banking and other fields. Education here is first and foremost based on learning to use information work methods and computer science means.

At the chair there works qualified staff having great pedagogical and industrial experience. Among them there is one professor, five senior lecturers, one senior teacher. The research officers of the chair carry out scientific work of great importance on present-day problems of enterprise activity. Many students are widely attracted to it. The chair has post-graduate courses on speciality number 080005 which is called “Economics and Running National Economy”.

Today extensive demands are being required to economists-computer-scientists and programmers as we are living today in the age of computer science. The wealth of our country depends on good and qualified specialists who are sure that the work they do will not only be a matter of prestige and wealth but will be of great benefit to the country.
