Transport and environment

The environmental impact of transport is significant because it is a major user of energy, and burns most of the world's petroleum. This creates air pollution and contributes to global warming through emission of carbon dioxide. By subsector, road transport is the largest contributor to global warming. If we compare the impact of travel by cars with trains then cars (with four passengers) can emit about three times more carbon per passenger over the same distance of travel. Trains emit about a fifteenth of the carbon emissions of aircraft per passenger over the same distance of travel. That’s why environmentalists call for a transition from air and road to rail and human-powered transport.We must make a decision. If we reduce transportation emissions globally, there will be significant positive effects on Earth's air quality, acid rain, smog and climate change.

Transport in future

Speaking about the future of the transportation we can't but mention Maglevs (Magnetically levitated trains). These trains are often referred to as Magnetically Levitated trains which is abbreviated to Maglev. A maglev train floats about 10 mm above the guiding track on a magnetic field. The highest recorded speed of a Maglev train is 580 kilometers per hour.

In 2000 the Chinese government ordered to build a Transrapid track connecting Shanghai to its International Airport. Now the Shanghai Maglev Train transports people 30 km to the airport in just 7 minutes 20 seconds. Its top speed is 430 km/h. Regular daily trips started in March 2004.

There are a lot of interesting trends in the development of road transport. The cars are becoming more environmentally friendly. They need less fuel and produce less emissions. You can see electric cars on the streets of some European cities. But they are still too expensive. There are even solar vehicles - electric vehicles powered by solar energy obtained from solar panels on the surface (generally, the roof) of the vehicle. Virtually all solar cars ever built have been for the purpose of solar car races. Solar vehicles are not practical day-to-day-transportation devices at present. But I think in some decades new technologies will change transportation completely.

Employment. Jobs

We spend great part of our lives at our jobs, so choosing a right career is one of the most important decisions you will make in your life. Many students finish high school and begin college without a clear idea of what they want to do in future. Above all young people must evaluate yourself. It is also important to explore the chosen occupation from every angle, collect as much information as possible. In old industries there may be little need for new workers, while new and growing industries will offer jobs now and in the future.

As for me, I’m 19 years old. I left school 2010 and started working as … . I’m responsible for … . 2011 I entered the University. I study by correspondence. I am going to be an engineer (an economist). I like my future profession and I am going to do my best to become a good specialist.
