Student’s life

INTRODUCING MYSELF.

My name is ... I am seventeen (twenty-two…). I live in Gomel.

I am tall (not very tall, short, of middle height). I am thin (not very thin, rather plump). My face is round (square, oval). I have a fair (dark) complexion. My forehead is narrow (broad) and low (high). I have a straight (upturned, crooked, aquiline) nose and a protruding (round) chin. My eyebrows are bushy (penciled), my eyelashes are thick (thin) and long (short). I have large (small) blue (hazel, black, grey) eyes. My hair is black (fair, dark, blond, chestnut), straight (curly) and long (short, not very long).

I have just left school and I have entered the University (Institute). I am going to be an engineer (an economist). I like my future profession and I am going to do my best to become a good specialist.

My family is large (small, not very large) and very good. I’m married/single. I live with my parents/husband/wife. I have a daughter (son)/no children. We love each other very much and always try to help each other and to spend as much time together as we can. I have a lot of friends too.

HOBBIES

I am fond of reading and playing computer games. My favorite sport is football (swimming, tennis, hockey). My friends and I often get together to play different games, go for a walk or to the disco or simply talk. When I have free time I like to listen to music and take photos of nature (especially I like flowers). I like to play with my beloved cat Max, who likes to sleep in my bed and who adores when I devote him my spare time.

MY STUDIES AT THE UNIVERSITY

Last year I entered the University and became a student. I took examinations in several subjects and passed them successfully. I wanted to become a railway engineer so I entered the Belarusian State University of Transport.

The Belarusian State University of Transport is one of the largest higher institutions in our republic. It was founded in 1953. The University is headed by the Rector. The University has ten faculties. At the head of each faculty is the Dean. There are about 32 chairs at the University with more than 300 teachers.

The course of study at the University lasts five years. The study of theoretical subjects is followed by practical training. The first and second-year students study such general subjects as higher mathematics, physics, chemistry, descriptive geometry, drawing, a foreign language and other subjects. Each academic year has two terms. At the end of each term the students take examinations.

I’m a student of the Extra-mural Faculty. The faculty trains specialists in 13 specialities without ceasing their work. The 1^st-3^rd year students study at the training courses in Minsk, Vitebsk and Brest on the basis of the educational and consultive methodical centre. The students of the senior courses study at the University.

Those who work on the chosen speciality have preference for being admitted to the University. The system of extra-mural education gives students the possibility to take credits and exams during the whole academic year.

I like my studies at that University.
