must remember in various countries of Europe, the USA?

What cultural differences could you observe there? Is foreign etiquette

important in Europe and the US?

Compare the attitudes of people who "work to live" with those who "live to

work". Which group do you think you belong to?

TASK 1

YOU are Financial Manager of VIRA LTD, a middle-sized company that sells household goods acquired from importers in Moscow.

THE things were first going quite well but with the competition growing stronger, your prices tend to look less and less attractive. The Management takes a decision to buy direct and is now preparing for the first business negotiations. Yet the lack of export-import experience worries them - they are not at all sure they will be able to bargain successfully.

TO GET UPDATED on foreign trade operations the company arranges a sort of workshop and asks you to speak on different METHODS OF PAYMENT practiced in international business.

MAKE A PRESENTATION.

BE RATIONAL. Your task is not merely informative - you are expected to build arguments for and against certain methods of payment though applicable in foreign trade yet not suitable - for some reason or other - for your company.

MENTION some methods that look attractive for you as Importers, and explain on what grounds the other party to the contract might reject them. DWELL on the problem in terms of the procedures to follow/the documents to present/ the value of the order to cover. OUTLINE the options you find appropriate. Counterbalance their weaknesses with their strengths.

Speak on types of ADVERTISING and MEDIA, which advertisers employ to reach the target audience. Participants of the seminars are not only the manufacturers of consumer goods but also the manufacturers of industrial goods.

So, you are expected to explain how advertisement of different types of products vary (e.g. drilling equipment, washing machines, soft drinks, computers).
