2. Homes

What does home mean to you? The answer can vary because each person implies his or her own meaning. A little boy of five can answer that it is Mammy and Daddy, plenty of toys and bedtime stories. A man of fifty can call it a place he returns to after work to enjoy his rest. As for me home is where I always want to go back. It's the place where I wake up every morning and where every day of my life starts. "My home is my castle", it is my territory, my place where I feel good and comfortable.

In the dictionary says that “home” is the house, an apartment, or place where you live. We can hardly say that today there exist the problem of choosing a type of housing. Everyone can find something he or she likes. For instance, some people prefer to live in a small, but cosy cottage or a large farmhouse. There are also those who like semi-detached houses or, as the Americans call them, duplexes. Many people live in detached houses. There are also many other buildings: a terraced house, a manor, a penthouse, a skyscraper, a castle and etc. There are many types of housing and all people have the right to choose where to live. I personally live in a block of flats.

Our flat is on the second floor. It has all modern conveniences: central heating, gas, electricity and air conditioning. There are three rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a hall in our flat. The living-room is the largest and most comfortable room in the flat. There are two armchairs, a sofa, a coffee-table, a soft carpet, a TV and DVD-player. The bedroom belongs to my parents. There you can see a bed with bedside-tables near to it, a wardrobe, a TV and two beautiful pictures above the bed. Our kitchen is the most often visited place. We have a modern refrigerator, a microwave, a dishwasher, an oven, a table, a cupboard, a sink and a cooker. My favorite room is my bedroom. It is very cosy and light. The walls in my room are light green and there are some pictures on them.

I love my flat very match, but every person has his own idea of a perfect house. I imagine the house of my dream in such way: it's a two-storied detached house fenced by a hedge. A narrow path leads to front steps by the both sides of which there are small nice flowerbeds. When you come in through the front door you find yourself in a spacious hall with a wide staircase. I'd like to have four or five rooms. The most beautiful room is my living-room. It consists of a bookcase, a sofa, an elegant coffee table, three armchairs, a home-cinema, a soft carpet and floor-to-ceiling windows. On the ground floor there’s also a kitchen and a bathroom. The kitchen is a very large room with a big window. On the second floor there is a bedroom. It suite consists of a bed, two bedside-tables and a wardrobe. The window overlooks the back yard. In my house there is also a swimming pool, a garage and a garden.

 There is no place like home. We connect many pleasant things with our home: our dearest people, parents, friends, nature, gentle flowers and trees in the yard, lively and noisy games. And if your house is not just a building for you but a place that you can call home, it means that you want to stay there as long as possible and it's a place where you always want to return to.
