Today, «MegaFon» is a recognized market leader in mobile data services in Russia. We made mobile Internet truly accessible to millions of people in our country by developing a third generation (3G) network. Our network infrastructure is well prepared for the transition to a new level of technology. And we take this important step with the launch of 4G for the benefit of Russian consumers and the Russian Economy. What is 4G of «MegaFon»? Are you become accustomed to the possibility of having a fast Internet connection only at home or at work? Now it is no longer the case! Fourth generation communication (4G) will forever change your view of mobile Internet. Owners of mobile devices with support for 4G will now be able to access higher quality and speed of conventional services, such as: social networking, photo sharing and video viewing, working with e-mail, automobile navigation and monitoring of traffic jams, browsing, and many others. «MegaFon» has begun to deploy fourth generation mobile networks in the regions of Russia!

How does it work? The main advantage to consumers who have the 4G standard compared to a previous generation of mobile networks, is the high-speed of access to mobile Internet. The LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology that constitutes the foundation of the network supports mobile data transfer at a maximum speed of up to 50 megabits per second. LTE technology gives users maximum comfort from its record «response rate»: when you request pages on the Internet the result appears on the screen with absolutely minimal delays. The main technological advantage of the 4G standard is its compatibility with existing networks, 3G and 2G (GSM), that are currently deployed across nearly the entire territory of Russia. In practice, this means that owners of devices that support 4G in the absence of coverage of the new standard will automatically be «accepted» by the 3G/2G «MegaFon» network and will retain their mobile Internet access. Universal 4G modem «MegaFon» «MegaFon E392» is the first Russian-purpose USB-modem that operates combination of 4G networks and those of previous generations. The modem automatically switches between 4G and the other operator networks (2G and 3G), and provides convenient wireless Internet access in any place where there is a «MegaFon» network. The new «cross-terrain modem» is compatible with PC-based operating systems , Windows and Mac OS. No additional settings are required. OJSC «MegaFon» guarantees the operation of the device with a special «MegaFon» SIM-card only. Operation of this device is supported by operating systems: Win XP SP2/SP3, Vista SP1/SP2, Win7, Mac OS X 10.5, 10.6 and later updates.

Where and how is it possible to connect to a 4G network? The ability to access communication services of 4G technology is already available in Novosibirsk. In the first half of 2012, «MegaFon» is planning to deploy a 4G network in Moscow, Krasnodar and Sochi, and by the end of the year — in St. Petersburg, Samara, Vladivostok, Ufa, Kostroma, and several other cities in Russia. The first device with support for subscribers of our 4G network is the universal modem «MegaFon E392», which also works in the existing mobile networks of 2G/3G. What will be the transition from the 3G network to 4G? The transition between the networks will be automatic and will not require the user to take any special action. It will be enough to simply connect to the network and the universal modem will choose the best network in terms of signal quality and maximum speed of Internet access. How do I know if I’m in the area of the 4G? The Network mode in which the subscriber is shown in the Connection Manager application is used to connect to the network. Will the «MegaFon» universal 4G modem work with my SIM-card? In order to work in a 4G network, it is necessary to use a special new generation SIM-card (USIM), which is available only in the package with the universal modem. The new generation card is capable of working in any operators’ mobile network, including while roaming. At what speed rate will the «MegaFon» 4G work? The rate at which the subscriber receives the network depends on many factors. They include the type and characteristics of the subscriber device (in our case — the modem), radio conditions at the location of the subscriber, relief and meteorological conditions, and the number of subscribers with 4G devices that operate in the same «cell». If we talk about peak speeds obtained in the laboratory during testing of the 4G network «MegaFon» 4G, — it is approximately 50 Mbit / s. The average rate, of course, will be lower and range between 10-20 Mbit / s.
