What good manners look like at home

  • b eing helpful to others in your home

  • saying 'please' and 'thank you'

  • sharing and not grabbing and keeping good things to yourself

  • respecting other people's property and their rooms

  • helping the family by doing your chores

  • cleaning up after yourself.

Manners at technical school

saying good morning/afternoon if you are walking past an adult who you know

asking if you can borrow something, not just taking

returning things that you have borrowed

waiting your turn before you speak

saying 'excuse me,' rather than pushing past someone

holding the door open for the person coming in, especially if he is carrying something

respecting your own and other people's property, especially school property

saying 'please' and 'thank you'.

Lesson 2

Friendship

It is usual for close friends to have similar ideas and beliefs, to have attitudes and interests in common. “A friend in need is a friend indeed”, -says the proverb.

Every day we mix with hundreds of people , get on well with some of them and make friends with only a few.

Some people have lots of friends, others are very reluctant to make new friends.

In my opinion a real friend is a person whom you trust and respect, who is “a friend in need “and who never lets you down. There are no rules of how to make friends.

Usually friendship between people grown when they have common views and judgments on things and events, have common interests and ambitions, A real friend should treat me with understanding, sympathy and compassion, exactly the way he wants to be treated by me.

A friend is one of the nicest things you can have and one of the best things you can be.

A friend is a real treasure and if you have one, you have one of the most valuable gifts in life.

A friend is a wonderful person, who always believes in you.

It’s nice to have a best friend. A best friend stops you from getting lonely.

That’s why a true friend is a priceless gift.

You can share the good times and the bad times with your best friend and that’s great.

Like everybody else I like to have lots of friends around me because they make life interesting and enjoyable.

Lesson 3

Everybody is a personality

Everybody is a personality. But the life experience comes to people not only with years, that’s why the child is a personality, too. Of course, our characters differ a lot, so you can be adult when you are 10, but you can also be a teenager at the age of 60, but in both cases you are a personality, as there is no ideal character.

Do you know a proverb “When you are good to others, you’re best to yourself”? I can say why it is true: we should treat to others as we treat to ourselves, as we want them to treat us. It’s good when other people respect you,

they are glad to communicate with you, to help you. But only a few people possess such qualities, so we should judge both bad and good people. I know, that people can guess the qualities of others by appearance. But sometimes the appearance is depictive. As another proverb says, “You must look into the people as well as at them”.

In conclusion, I want to say, that you can’t see yourself from the views of others, so you should be attentive to all advices they give you. Moreover, while speaking about any of your qualities, you should always prove them by facts or deals.

Lesson 4

Ukrainian cuisine

Ukrainian cuisine is closely linked to the customs, culture, and way of life of the Ukrainian people. It is famous for its diversity and flavours.

The most popular Ukrainian dish is borsch. This thick and delicious soup is prepared with a variety of ingredients including meat, mushrooms, beans, and even prunes.

Mushroom soups, bean and pea soups, soups with dumplings and thick millet chowders are also popular.

"Holubtsi", or stuffed cabbage, is another favourite dish, as are "varenyky" filled with potatoes, meat, cheese, sauerkraut or berries such as blue-berries or cherries. "Varenyky" are often mentioned in folk songs.

Ukrainians like dairy products. Some samples: cheese pancakes and "riazhanka" (fermented baked milk). There are no holidays without pies, "pampushky" (type of fritters), "baba" (a tall cylindrical cake) and honey cakes.

Ukrainian sausage is delicious. It is preserved in a special way — in porcelain vessels filled by melted fat.

Of course, every region of Ukraine has its own recipes and traditions.

Lesson 5

Art in our life

Art plays an important role in my life.It aids the people`s understanding of their culture. No doubt tastes should be developed through images of high artistic culture, whereas works of popular culture as a rule meet consumer`s tastes.

In my opinion the habit of looking at good pictures is in itself a means by which taste can be formed.Art allows people to talk about emotionally meaningful experiences.Every artist tries to develop his own style of painting to differ from other ones. There are many styles of painting in art: a portrait, a still life, a landscape, a seascape and etc.An artist has the skill to combine form and colour into harmonious entity and to represent a brilliant colour scheme. The artist`s pictures may be dull, crude, chaotic and colourless daub of paint. But in spite of it they are an exquisite piece of painting.

I`d like to add that an artist can become famous overnight and die forgotten and penniless.
