Superlatives

  1. Oldest and eldest:

That church is the oldest building in the town.

My eldest (oldest) son is 13 years old. Are you the eldest (oldest) in the family?

Prepositions:

In – with places (towns, buildings, etc), organisations, groups of people (a class, a team, a company, etc):

We had a lovely room. It was one of the nicest rooms in the hotel. Who is the best student in your class?

Of – for a period of time

What’s the happiest day of your life? Yesterday was the hottest day of the year.

The preposition OF is often used with adjectives.

He is the best of my friends. He is my best friend.

Present Perfect:

What’s the best film you’ve ever seen? That was the most delicious meal I’ve had for a long time.

Most + adjective (without the): VERY

The book you lent me was most interesting. Thank you for the money. It was most generous of you.

  1. Complete the sentences. Use a superlative plus a preposition
