VII. Post-reading discussion.

1. What musical trends have been mentioned in the text?

2. Write out from the text all the terms denoting different trends in music and match them with the names of the singers mentioned in this text.

3. Find in the text and put down the attributes describing the art of performance of this or that musician/singer.

4. Are you a pop music expert? Can you answer these questions?

a. Who was the King of Rock and Roll from the 50s to the 70s?

b. Which city in England did the Beatles come from?

- London, Manchester, Liverpool.

5. Can you put these first names and surnames together to make the names of the four Beatles?

VIII. Translate the sentences.

1. English folk songs date back from the 16th century. 2. Makers and bearers (носители) of folk songs were anonymous amateurs. 3. Ballad is a form of poetry and music which flourished in the 13th century. 4. Folk music is the product of a musical tradition. 5. IX. Translate into English:

В конце 70-х возникло новое направление в музыке, которое было называется музыкой “New Age”. Это направление было основано Эолией (Aeoliah), психотерапевтом с мировым именем, который пишет музыку для своих сеансов (sessions) с его коллегами Johannes Walter, Denis Quinn и другими. Этому музыкальному направлению посвятили себя такие известные музыканты, как Anthony Phyllips из “Genesis”, James Mackarthy из известной британской группы “The Yard Birds”. Музыку “New Age” отличает использование в ней звуков живой природы. Эта музыка очень полезна для здоровья. Она обращена к подсознанию. Музыка “New Age” в исполнении дуэта “Cusco” из Германии стирает все границы между Нью-Эйджем и такими направлениями, как поп, рок, фолк и классика. Некоторые композиции не следует слушать за рулем. Но если дома вы заснете под волшебные звуки музыки “New Age” – это только к лучшему. Вы почувствуете себя обновленными.
