The master thesis is dedicated to the linguistic study of the genre of popular psychology, in fact, to its lexical, stylistic and translation characteristics. Self-help texts are of great interest for translation theory, while they are characterized by high degree of specific terms and cultural realias, definite phrases, psychological aspects and phenomena usage, which can land a translator in a real trouble.

Self-help texts have hardly ever been the object of linguistic and philological research. At the same time, they represent a great stratum of modern popular literature which has distinctive stylistic and genre features.

Self-help psychology is a system of psychological knowledge and training, which have won wide popularity among readers. Everyone is aware of self-help books for teens, self-help literature on communication, relationships etc. (i.e. by Dale Carnegie, John Gray, Vladimir Levi, etc.)
