Awaiting a trial
jump bail, remand in custody, remand on bail, released on bail
Where an alleged offence is serious, the suspect may be remanded in custody and await trial in prison, or they may be remanded on bail and then released on bail: the judge decides an amount of money that must be paid by, or on behalf of, the defendant so as to ensure that they return to the court for trial late. If someone jumps bail, they do not return to court for trial.
