In galician-volhynian principality

Forming of Galician-Volhynian state as a sovereign state. Activity of Prince Roman Mstyslavovych, Prince Danylo Romanovych, and his descendants. Foreign policy of Galician-Volhynian state: struggle against Tartar invasion, attempts of unions with Western countries (papal Rome, Austria, Hungaria, Poland, and Lithuania). Political and law order of the principality. Sources of law (charters, treaties, and codes of Magdeburg law).

Political and law order of ukraine as a part of lithuania

Ukrainian lands under the power of Lithuanian state. Prince Olgerd’s dynasty. Krewo union of 1385. Gradual liquidation of Ukrainian lands autonomy. Establishment of voyevods’ ruling in Ukrainian lands. Social and political order of Ukrainian lands in Lithuania: nobility, city dwellers, peasants. Main sources of law: Code of Prince Casimir IV, Lithuanian statutes. Widening of Magdeburg law in Ukrainian towns.

Theme 6.

Political and law order of ukraine under the power of poland

Western Ukrainian lands under the Polish power in 14th – 16th centuries. Lublin union of 1569 and its results. Origin of Ukrainian Cossacks in 15th – 16th centuries. Social structure of Ukrainian people under the Polish power: Strengthening of serfdom. Main power institutions of Polish state: the parliament (Sejm), king’s government, provinces and prefectures. Main sources of law: “Voloks’ statute”, “Articles” of Henri de Valois.

POLITICAL AND LAW ORDER OF UKRAINE

IN THE PERIOD OF LIBERATION WAR (1648 – 1657)

Causes of Liberation war (1648 – 1657) headed by Bohdan Khmelnytsky. Military actions and their results. Relationship between Ukraine and Poland, Crimea, Ottoman Empire, Moldavia, Moscow State. Military order of the Hetman State in Ukraine. Administrative and legal system. Sources of law (Hetman’s charters, international treaties, custom law, etc.).

Theme 8.

POLITICAL AND LAW ORDER OF THE HETMAN STATE

IN THE SECOND HALF OF 17th CENTURY

Period of Ruin in history of the Hetman State. Different vectors of foreign policy: Polish (Ivan Vyhovskyi, Pavlo Teteria, Mykhailo Khanenko), Russian (Ivan Briukhovetskyi, Demyan Mnohohrishnyi, Ivan Samoilovych), Turkish (Petro Doroshenko). Sources of law: treaties (Hadiach treaty of 1658, Pereyaslav treaty of 1659, Moscow treaty of 1665, Hlukhiv treaty of 1669, etc.). Strengthening of Cossack aristocracy privileges.

Political and law order of the hetman state

In 18th century

Ruling of Hetman Ivan Mazepa: features of monarchy in his domestic policy. Decline of the Hetman state in the period of Ivan Skoropadskiy, Pavlo Polubotok, Danylo Apostol ruling. Administrative and law reforms of Hetman Kyrylo Rozumovskiy. Abolishing of Hetman’s power in 1764. Codification of Cossack law: Pylyp Orlyk’s Constitution, “Laws according to which Malorossiya’s People go to Legal”, “The Legal and Execution in Malorossiya’s Law”, etc.
