Ukete: Small step back with right foot into hidari han zen kutsu dachi, perform migi hiki uke, catch semete’s right wrist.

Continue by dropping (tai otoshi) and pivoting back towards your right side in a downward spiral motion. Simultaneously pulling semete’s arm downward and lifting the leg upward, causing semete to land on his back. Follow with morote ippon naka daka ken.

Notes: During the takedown, ensure that you are very close to semete’s body, your back is straight; use your hips and legs to facilitate the takedown, not your upper body. This will ensure the safety of ukete’s back, ease the execution of the nage with different sized partners and help maintain total control of the takedown. For safety, semete should hold onto ukete’s shoulder with his free hand while performing this technique.

Semete: Heiko dachi (standing behind ukete).

Ukete: Heiko dachi.

Semete: Step in attacking ukete with a bear hug.

Ukete: Begin by sliding the right hand up towards the side of your own neck in between semete’s arms and your chest before semete can secure his grip. Then drop into migi neko ashi dachi while striking backward with hidari enpi ate. The right elbow should be thrust upward in an arc-like motion so as to throw off semete’s grip. Continue by turning 180˚, pushing semete back with your left palm (shotei uchi) then striking with gyaku zuki to chudan/jodan.

Notes: The feeling of tai otoshi should be present while dropping into neko ashi dachi.

This downward motion should be coordinated with the upward movement of the arm to create a feeling of opposing motion.
