The Present Indefinite Tense (теперішній неозначений час)
§ 1 Запам’ятайте, як утворюється the Present Indefinite Tense
(+) I / you / we / they – work; he / she / it works;
They drink tea every evening. We write letters once a week.
I often play the piano. Ann speaks German very well.
(?) Do you / they / we work? – Does he / she / it work?
Do you live in Kiev? Do they like to play football? Do we read English books?
Does she like her new dress? Does he remember your telephone number?
(-) I / we / they / you do not work. – He / she / it does not work.
We don’t know English. They don’t drink tea very often.
I don’t go to the cinema. Rice doesn’t grow in cold countries.
§ 2 Запам’ятайте, коли вживається the Present Indefinite Tense
1) The Present Indefinite Tense вживається для вираження дії, яка є повторюваною, відбувається завжди, постійно, часто або інколи. The Present Indefinite Tense характеризує постійний стан:
She is a doctor. He works in a bank. She reads a lot.
She takes the bus to work every morning. He doesn’t live in Lviv.
He goes to the theatre once a week. Where do you work?
2) The Present Indefinite Tense вживається для вираження законів природи або дії, яка відбувається незалежно від волі людини:
The sun sets in the west. It rarely rains in the desert.
Water boils at 1000C. The earth goes round the sun.
3) The Present Indefinite Tense вживається для дії, підпорядкованої розкладу. (якщо мова йде про початок фільмів, відправлення транспорту, тощо)
The plane from Brussels arrives at 8:30. The train leaves at 4 o’clock.
The film starts at seven o’clock. The play finishes in half an hour.
4) Ми вживаємо the Present Indefinite Tense для спортивних коментарів, опису в літературі, рецензіях:
Peterson overtakes Williams and wins the race.
Mike Dalton plays the part of Macbeth.
§ 3 Запам’ятайте, що the Present Indefinite Tense вживається з наступним обставинами: usually, seldom, sometimes, rarely, often, always, in the morning / evening; every day / week / morning, at night, at the weekend, on Mondays;
