InDesign Magazine o ers two ad sizes: full page and Marketplace. Full-page ads appear throughout the magazine while fractional ads (1/6 page) are positioned in our Marketplace section. Please take care to create your ads at the desired size. See the next page for guidelines for preparing and submitting your files.

Submission Guidelines
& Advertising Deadlines
InDesign Magazine uses an all-Creative-Suite workflow for production, so we need your ads to be compatible with Adobe InDesign CS and Adobe Acrobat 6 Professional. We expect the majority of subscribers will read and/or print the publication with Acrobat 5-6, Adobe Reader, or Apple Preview. Please note the following guidelines when preparing your ad files for inclusion in InDesign Magazine.
File Formats
PDF is our preferred file format.
EPS, TIF, flattened PSD, or JPEG files are also accepted (see General File Prep, below, about font embedding).
If in doubt, e-mail for clarification.
General File Prep
The maximum file size is:
•500K for full page ads
•150K for Marketplace ads Use RGB colors.
Use JPEG compression (see Preparation of PDF files, below).
Do not embed ICC profiles (we use sRGB as our document profile if you want to target that).
Please embed fonts (PDF and EPS) or convert type to outlines.
Send files at the dimensions at which they are to be reproduced (see Page Layout Guidelines, previous page, for sizes).
Please name files clearly, indicating company name and issue date.
Hyperlinked Ads
Ads can include hyperlinks, allowing you to send readers to your Web site for more information or special offers. If you choose this option, please note the following:
Do not embed hyperlinks in your PDF (PDFs placed in InDesign do not retain their hyperlinks). We will add hyperlinks in production.
Indicate the exact URL to be embedded in your ad on the file checklist.
If your ad contains more than one URL, please note which text is to be linked.
Preparation of PDF Files
To create your PDF, please use Acrobat Distiller or the Export/Save feature in InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
The maximum file size is:
•500K for full page ads
•150K for Marketplace ads
To achieve these file sizes, we suggest: When exporting/saving a file, use the
eBook preset.
When using Acrobat Distiller, use the
Standard preset.
Specific settings to be noted: Images should be downsampled to a
maximum of 150 ppi.
Set Image Quality to Medium (or High if using lower resolution images).
Make your files compatible with Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4).
Check Embed All Fonts and specify Subset Embedded Fonts. . . as 100%.
Optimize the file for Fast Web View. Use Automatic or JPEG compression. Do not add additional marks (e.g., crop
marks), bleed, movies, or sound files to your ad.
Do not add any Security protection.
Transmission of Files
Please fill out the electronic Advertiser Checklist and include it with your file.
Send files via e-mail to production@indesignmag.com or upload to our secure FTP site. If you choose FTP, we will provide upload instructions when the ad is booked.
