First job

Interviewer - I

Diana- D

D.: Good morning, sir.

I. : Hello, eh Diana. How are you?

D.: I am well, thank you.

I. : What was your first job, Diana?

D.: Oh, I can remember it very well. That time I'd just graduated from the College and I'd just got married, two important things you know — and my husband got a job In New Deli Town, India. And we went out there together and my idea was to get a job shortly after getting there. And I didn't really know what kind of job it would be. The only thing I wanted is to be with my husband.

I. : So, yon were just taking pot luck, really?

D.: May be you are right. Who knows?

I.: I think you do know!!!

D.: Well, what happened was I thought I'd take some time to settle us in to this small town. Then I knew the local junior school's going to close down. And I thought I could help them and decided to be the teacher there.

I .: The only teacher?

D.: No, one of three. I was to teach the six to thirteen year-olds, all nationalities, and there was also a class of five and six year-olds, in tins small local school.

I.: But you bad no experience of teaching at all?

D.: No. I look back now, I look hack with horror and think, «The only way that I think that I coped was because I was so ignorant, I didn't know any better.» I took the job and I felt as if I was doing a really good deed.

I.: And did you have any discipline problems with these kids?

D. : Well, no. The thing was, when I took over the job, I was told by a very strict teacher that in India yon had to punish the children very firmly, it was a junior school, and one of the things I was supposed to teach them was geography, and I knew nothing about geography, but as part of my university course, I'd done : something about Europe and the USA, So I was in India and I thought, «1 have to teach them geography, I don't know any geography». - there were no books. So I taught them about European Union and the USA, They were fascinated in countries with snow, and a country where it didn't always get light at six o'clock, and it didn't always get dark at six and I think that was one of my main successes. Every day I went in, and they'd say «Tell us some re about Northern Europe or Alaska!» and I didn't have a lot to tell, really. But 1 don't know if I did anything else very well, but I was very good in telling them about Alaska and snow, la And what happened later? Da Alter three years of teaching there I. came back to the States and entered the College for teachers. Have graduated from the College and 1 started to work as a teacher. So, I have worked as a teacher in Richmond College in New Jersey and now I am looking for new job opportunities,

I.: OK, Diana. I guess we'll admit you to our team. So, see you tomorrow.

D.: Good-bye!
