The regional tourist and travel company "Evrazia" was founded in 1951. The company has long experience in arranging tours for Russian and foreign tourists and offers a wide range of services for tourist groups and individual tourists from different countries. The company provides accommodation in hotels, meals, guided tours and cultural programmes, assistance in arranging business contacts and conferences. Tourists are offered a variety of tours.

It was in Ekaterinburg that the last Russian Emperor, Nickolas II met his end. The place of execution is now available for a visit.

The mineral resources of the Urals are unique in their diversity of minerals, precious and ornamental stones which are famous all around the world. We offer several variants of the so called ―Geological Tours‖.

Tourists have a chance to acquire very rare specimens of precious stones for their collections as well as fine items made of precious stones.

For those who are fond of active tourism we offer rafting down the Chusovaya River.

This river is called ―The Pearl of the Urals‖ due to its exceptional beauty. Fishing and hunting routes are also available.

Tourists can also visit old Urals towns - Kungur, with its world famous ice-cave, Nevyansk where they can see the famous inclined tower (like the Leaning Tower of Pisa), the open air Museum of Russian Wooden Architecture where one can see peasants farmsteads dating back to the 17 - 19th centuries.

Winter in the Urals is a fine season for skiing, skating, tobogganing. Tourists have a number of Tourist Camps at their disposal. Do not be afraid of frosts in the Urals! Riding on a Russian Troika, winter fishing will only bring you more health and vigour.

When in the Urals you have a unique chance to stand, in the literal sense of word, with the one foot in Asia and the other one in Europe. And all this is only 40 km. from Ekaterinburg where the border between Europe and Asia passes.

A visit to the Urals, a land of boundless forests, picturesque lakes and rocks will leave an unforgettable impression for a life time.

A businessman who travels all over the world gives a little advice on «wise traveling»

I have learned, often the hard way, that there are a few simple rules about how to make life easier both before and after your journey. First of all, always check and doublecheck departure times. It is amazing how few people really do this carefully. Once I ar-

16

rived at the airport a few minutes after ten. My secretary had got the ticket for me and I thought she had said that the plane left at 10.50. I walked calmly to the departure desk, thinking I still had a little time to spare. I hadn't bothered to take a good look at the ticket. The clerk at the desk told me politely but firmly that the departure time was 10.15 and that the flight was, according to international regulations «now closed». I had to wait three hours for the next one and missed an important meeting.

The second rule is to remember that even in this age of credit cards, it is still important to have at least a little of the local currency with you when you arrive in a country. This can be absolutely essential if you are flying to a place few tourists normally visit. A few years ago I was sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma. I flew there from London via Dallas, with very little time to change planes in between. I arrived there at midnight and the bank at the airport was closed. The only way to get to my hotel was by taxi and since I had no dollars, I offered to pay in pounds instead.

«Listen, buddy! I only take real money!» the driver said angrily. Luckily I was able to borrow a few dollars from a clerk at the hotel, but it was embarrassing.

The third and last rule is to find out as much as you can about the weather at your destination before you leave, especially if you can take only a little luggage with you. I feel sorry for some of my colleagues who travel in heavy suits and raincoats in May, when it is still fairly cool in London or Manchester, to places like Athens, Rome or Madrid, where it is already beginning to get quite warm during the day. Few people understand just how important it is to have the right sort of clothes with you in these days of rapid air travel.

Дайте ответы на вопросы письменно

1.Explain why the writer once arrived at the airport only a few minutes before the plane was due to live.

2.Do you think this was the writer‘s fault of his secretary‘s?

3.Why do you think the taxi-driver refused to accept English money?

4.What do you think were the exact words the writer and the taxi-driver said to each other?

5.Imagine the conversation between the writer and the hotel clerk. Again, give the extract words both said.

6.Explain why the writer always finds out about the weather at his destination before traveling there.

7.What exactly do you think the writer means by «the right sort of clothes»?

7. My home town. (Любимцева С.Н. p. 79.)

I'd like to tell you about my home town. I live in Tver. It's an old Russian town near Moscow. There are many places of interest in the central part: a theatre, two museums, several beautiful churches, some old buildings. The houses are small and the streets are narrow.

There is a new district in the suburbs of the town with wide and long streets. The houses there are modern and comfortable and the flats arc larger than in the old houses. But there are not many shops and cinemas there.

My parents have got a flat in the new district. There is a living-room, a bedroom, a kitchen and a bathroom in their flat. The living-room is larger than the bedroom. It is a nice and comfortable room, it is light and airy. There are beautiful curtains on the windows. There is a table and four chairs, a sofa and two armchairs there too. There is a colour TV-set in the corner of the room. There is a nice green carpet on the floor. My parents have got a lot of Russian and English books. They are in the bookcase and on the shelves.

The bedroom is smaller than the living-room. There is not much furniture there. There are two beds, a dressing-table and a wardrobe in the bedroom.

The kitchen is not very large. There is a kitchen-table, two chairs, a cupboard and a big fridge in it.

I like to go to my home town when I am on holiday. My parents are always happy to see me.
