Introduction
The textbook was prepared at the «Transportation and Traffic Management» Department, DSTU in accordance with the educational program for bachelors of the training direction 23.03.01 «Technology of transport processes».
The textbook divided into three chapters: General overview, Touristic flows and Large event logistical and support traffic management.
It is necessary to take into account formation process and the realization of the tour in accordance with the interests and requirements of the consumer. So, tourism requires logistics, and logistics is impossible without information technologies. The textbook consider the fundamentals of logistics functioning organization in tourism.
Special attention is paid to the mass events traffic organization. Mass events require additional functions and solutions from the existing urban transport network that would allow to solve the following issues: demand passenger transportation increasing, an in the volume of commercial transportation for service trips increasing, a large number of people unfamiliar with the city, etc. This textbook examines the experience of various countries in holding mass events, on the basis of which common elements of ITS used in organizing and conducting various types of mass events are highlighted.

CHAPTER 1. GENERAL OVERVIEW
Unit 1.1. The main aspects of tourism logistics
Topic 1.1.1. Introduction to tourism logistics
1. Read and translate the text:
The tourism logistics discipline aims to support the main activities of the tourism sector: different transport modes for comfortable travelling; customer service at point of sale, online engagement with customers; hotels, whose main function is to host tourists; warehouse management; lean transportation management; digital services to make travelling pleasant and safe.
For organizations involved in tourism, efficiency can be reached by the coordination and coherence of all participants efforts in the specific activities chain: travel service providers, tour operators, travel agencies and tourists themselves. Analyzing tourism activity as an activity for the production of material goods successful activity can be achieved when these various categories of participants act as a system in the supply chain. Internal logistics includes activities related to procurement, support of operations and some aspects similar to physical distribution. The supply chain is structured through cooperation between different number of participants, from suppliers of raw materials to consumers. Otherwise, the role of the latter category is more important, because they give a specific character to tourism activities, thanks to participation in a successful tourism product.
The main functions of logistics in tourism are (fig. 1):
analysis, control and management of formation processes, tourist product promotion and sale, as well tourist organizations strategic planning and forecasting;
prompt transmission of the required volume and quality of infor- mation at a given time and to the right place;
control of tourists movement and tourism product;
integration of separately functioning tourist infrastructure infor-
mation systems (local, regional, transcontinental networks, etc.) into a single logistics information system;
5
calculation and organization of a financial buffer in case of an eco- nomic force majeure on the basis of negative trends development in the tourism sector analysis and forecasting;
provision of conference calls, videoconferences, symposia, etc. on a local, regional and global scale.

For a tour operator, it is advisable to allocate the following functional logistics zones:
the logistics service guarantees provision monitoring;
the chain participants of tourist services provision actions logistical
coordination, involving a rapid response to logistics service increasing requirements;
tourist flow service channels logistics audit.
The main tasks of tourism logistics should include rationalization of the tourism product formation, promotion and sale; routes and improvement of methods of tourists transportation; operational information exchange between suppliers and tourism product consumers organization; financial flows planning, forecasting and control.

Unit 1.2. Transport system and transport modes
Topic 1.2.1. Transport system of modern cities
1. Read and translate the text:
The transport urban infrastructure system aims at ensuring equitable and easy access for all city’s inhabitants and visitors. Transport infrastructure is the system of communications and facilities of urban and external passenger and freight transport, including the street and road network, lines and structures of off-street transport, passenger service facilities, cargo handling facilities, permanent and temporary storage and maintenance of vehicles. Transport infrastructure have to fully integrated the travel chain, increasing convenience by extending public transport, implementing advanced traffic management systems and further reducing individual transport. Transport policy must promote walking, cycling, bike sharing, car sharing and smart mobility cards as part of strategy do reduce travel times, road accidents and carbon emissions. Integrated mobility infrastructure also provide attractiveness of the city for tourists.
Relationships between transport and the city structure
Transport is clearly the most interrelated infrastructure of a city. Firstly, transport is closely related to housing and the built environment. Transport is also a significant driver of urban energy, as well as pollution, using around 25 percent of the energy that goes into a city.
The efficiency of transportation system
1. Time efficiency of the system is evaluated with reference to the time it
takes to move from one point to another within the urban transportation system.
9
This is related to two main factors: congestions and reliability. Congestion systems are not capable to responding to the citizen’s transportation needs and demand.
2. Energy efficiency refers to the performance of urban transportation
system in terms of energy usage per mobility service. An average 30 percent of global energy is consumed by transport.
3. Cost efficiency – critical indicator when assessing the overall effi-
ciency of an urban transportation system.
2. New words and expressions to learn:
The transport urban infrastructure system Physical mobility components Time efficiency Congestions Energy efficiency Cost efficiency
3. Discuss the following with your partner:
What are the main functions of the transportation system? Name advantages and disadvantages of private cars driving.
4. Answer the questions:
a) Define the components of transportation system. b) Define the transport infrastructure influence on other city’s infra-
structures.
c) Name the main categories of transport infrastructure functioning
efficiency.
Topic 1.2.2. Transport modes
1. Read and translate the text:
The main physical infrastructures that make up the transport system of the city are:
1. Underground modes (metro tracks, underground train tracks)
2. Surface modes.
Main transportation modes and their management (fig. 3, 4, 5):
1. Private/ commercial cars.
2. Public transport modes.
3. Soft mobility.
