Topic 3.2.2. Large event logistical traffic
1. Read and translate the text:
Logistical support may be defined as the set of all means and methods related to the organization of an event, which can include administration and services for security, medical and health services, reception, accommodation, catering, technical assistance, general maintenance, setting up and dismantling structures and equipment, passenger transport, goods and supplies delivery, media and communication, cleaning and waste removal, etc.
Based on an estimate of the main groups of persons involved – mainly volunteers and personnel directly involved in the event - logistics staff may account for up to a quarter of participants, or by deduction, more than a quarter of the traffic generated by the event.
Three different types of traffic may be distinguished:
spectator traffic: all spectators movements to and from the event;
logistics or accredited traffic: all traffic flows related to organization,
running, supply, maintenance, security and media coverage of the event, as well as player and participants flows;
– base traffic: existing traffic maintained or subject to specific and temporary modifications within the events perimeter of influence.
In other words, logistical traffic is all of the traffic generated by the event, excepting spectator traffic. It is very difficult or even impossible to give a precise estimation of logistical traffic as it is so diverse and complex.
It should be noted that base traffic is generally reduced, whether deliberately through locally taken measures (on site, diversions or access restrictions) or globally (transport policy for the whole agglomeration), or naturally (user behavior changes due to the presence of an event which reduces the capacity available for ordinary traffic).
The special nature of logistical traffic is encapsulated in the following three points:
– traffic flows can be relatively large, being generated by nearly a quarter of the participants at the event;
– while logistical traffic is easier to control than spectator traffic, its requirements are even more important, the whole success of the event depending on the performance and mobility of the logistical back-up;
– person and goods flows complexity with all different logistical functions necessitates measures and rise costs, which can easily be underestimated.

Conclusion
Logistics plays a crucial role in the effective tourism management. It’s includes lots of aspects: consumer, travel agent, tour operator, service provider, owner of recreational and tourist resources. So it is important to develop effective plan, intelligently direct and promptly control the end-to-end tourist flow, as well as material, information and financial flows. Also it is necessary to take into account formation process and the realization of the tour in accordance with the interests and requirements of the consumer. That tourism requires logistics, and logistics is impossible without information and technologies for working with this information, i.e. information technology.
