About the Authors
Janet R. Sesser, a Registered Medical Assistant,
holds a Master of Science in Health Education, Bachelor
of Science in Health Care Management, and an Associate Degree in Medical Assisting. She is currently teaching in a Medical Assisting program as well as online instruction in Medical Billing and Coding program for a
private postsecondary school in Phoenix, Arizona. Her
background includes many years working as a practicing medical assistant for various types of practices and
as a cardiopulmonary technician. For the past 25 years,
she has worked in postsecondary education teaching
and writing allied health curricula. Sesser is actively involved with American Medical Technologists, serving as
an appointed member on the AMT Examinations, Qualications, and Standards Committee. She is a recipient
of the Medallion of Merit Award, the highest honor bestowed by AMT to a medical assistant, and a frequent
presenter at national and state medical conferences.
Deborah L. Westervelt, a Registered Medical
Assistant, holds an Associate Degree in Science. She is
currently a Clinical Supervisor for an Orthopedic Physiatry practice in Chestereld, Missouri. Her background
includes many years working as a practicing medical assistant and ofce manager for various types of practice.
Deborah worked for 20 years in postsecondary education teaching, supervising, and writing allied health
curricula. Westervelt is also actively involved with
American Medical Technologists, serving as a board
member and co-chair of the AMT RMA Examinations,
Qualications and Standards Committee. She is a recipient of the Medallion of Merit Award and serves on the
Missouri State Society as the state treasurer.
