1.2 Неологизмы и сокращения как способ пополнения словаря публицистики

Обилие новообразований и аббревиатур на страницах английских газет свидетельствует о том, что публицистика остается всегда «на передовой» различных сфер жизни общества. Классифицируя неологизмы, обнаруженные на страницах газеты «Moscow News» и используя семантический критерий, мы выделили несколько групп:

1) Война и милитаризм

brilliant pebbles, Exocet, human shield, krytron, Lance, nuclear-free, nuclear winter, peace camp, wimmin, Semtex, star wars, Stealth, survivalism и др.

2) Люди и общество

ableism, abuse, affluential, ageism, baby buster, bimbo, buppie, claimant, fattism, guppie, herstory, heterosexism, homophobia, hotline и др.

3) Медицина, здоровье и фитнес

active birth, aerobics, angioplasty, balance, Callanetics, cholesterol-free, condom, fibre, free radical, gluten-free и др.

4) Молодежная субкультура

5) Музыка

Создание сокращенных слов-неологизмов, значительно пополнивших словарный состав английского языка в последние десятилетия, демонстрирует продуктивность этого типа словообразования и экономное расходование языковых ресурсов носителями языка. Происходит экономия места в письменной речи, сфере преимущественного использования сокращенных слов, так как вместо многокомпонентных и громоздких оборотов или сложных слов создаются цельнооформленные единицы, представляющие собой либо замены вышеназванных единиц, либо заполнение лакун в языке. Сокращение как способ словообразования представляет собой довольно обширный пласт слов в составе любого языка. Однако в лингвистике существуют разнообразные классификации сокращений. Вслед за Л.С. Рудинской мы предлагаем классифицировать сокращения, обнаруженные в газетных текстах, на три структурных типа: слоговые, сложнослоговые и инициальные [Рудинская 1997: 34].

Слоговые сокращения образуются от начального слога слов, например: deli < delicatessen, co < company, prop < property, например:

Perhaps in an effort to reach the audiences and try and show what "real brutality" looks like, the makers shower the viewer with scenes of impaled palms and slit throats, but the awful work of the prop and make-up department ends up making the gore look unnatural to the point of being comical [Novaya Zemlya. К сложнослоговым сокращениям относятся такие сокращения, которые представлены несколькими начальными слогами или начальным и конечным слогами словосочетаний: sci-fi < scientific fidelity; sitcom < situation comedy; Forex < foreign exchange, Viagra < vigor + Niagara, и др., например:

He has composed music for countless concerts, for all of his CDs and for a number of independent films, plus worked as a composer for the famous CBS sitcom Cosby and for Little Bill [Anna Ozar. Culture. In Love With Music. Moscow News. 2006-05-26 MSN-No. 019].

Третьей разновидностью сокращения является инициальный тип, состоящий из начальных букв. По орфоэпическому признаку его можно подразделить на собственноаббревиацию и акронимы.

Инициализмы, которые образуются из начальных букв сложных слов или словосочетаний, но произносятся как последовательно разложенные буквы алфавита, называются аббревиацией: BFE < Baltic Futures Exchange; CVD < countervailing duty; FGT < federal gift tax, например:

The report focuses not only on what reforms should be implemented, but also calls on the U.S. government to improve trade conditions for Russian companies by abolishing the Jackson-Vannik amendment, supporting fast-track WTO accession and helping Russia avoid the threat of countervailing duty, or CVD, cases once it gains market status [Torrey Clark. Акронимы, в отличие от аббревиаций, произносятся не как отдельные буквы алфавита, а как слова: ECU < European Currency Unit; IDOLT < Instrumentation Digital On-Line Transcriber, SNAFU < situation normal, all fouled up, и пр.:

At the National Banking Council, a heated dispute broke out over banks with a capital of less than one million ecu; there are 700 such banks [A Test For Russia's Banking System. MoscowNews. 04-16-98(MSN-No.014)].

Как показывает анализ практического материала, акронимы могут быть представлены сочетанием, состоящим из начальной буквы или нескольких букв слов, входящих в словосочетание: ALCO < asset-liability committee; CENTO < Central Treaty Organization. Еще одной разновидностью акронимов являются такие, в которых первый элемент сокращается до одной буквы, произносимой как буква алфавита, а вторая часть слова остается неизменной: E-day < entry Day или D-day < Decimal Day, например:

1944: D-Day: thousands of Allied troops begin to land on the beaches of Normandy in northern France at the start of a major offensive against the Germans [Miscellaneous. HistoryCalendar 1-7 June. Moscow News. 2005-06-01 MSN-No. 020].

Еще одним типом словообразования, традиционно считающимся непродуктивным, является телескопический способ образования новых слов, который стал играть заметную роль в английском языке. В современной англистике существуют различные термины для его обозначения: «контаминация», «сращение», «стяжение», «слова-слитки» и т.д.

Под «сращением» понимается образование нового слова из усеченных частей, как правило, двух или более слов, которые накладываются друг на друга. При этом не существует правил соединения частей слов: Sheeple < Sheep + people; specs < specifications [Максимова 2003: 93], ср.:

In one scene Cherkasov the professor changes into a uniform and reports to his commander - tall, with a bad stoop, incongruous, encumbered with a speech defect and specs, utterly inconceivable in the Red Army (what could director Shapiro be thinking about, what did he hope for?) Неологизмы в газетных заголовках могут использоваться для того, чтобы заинтересовать читателя, например:

 Biomedicine - Is a Human Clone Around the Corner?

Сокращения в газетных заголовках встречаются не так часто, как в самих текстах статей. Возможно, это связано с особой функцией заголовков — функцией привлечения внимания читателей, и использование аббревиаций (особенно малоизвестных) может оттолкнуть читателя. В основном в заголовках встречаются общеизвестные сокращения,  NATO, U.S., OSCE и др.

No Winners at NATO Summit;

Economy Sputtering in the U.S.;

Russian Elections Chief Slams OSCE.

Как мы видим, аббревиация в публицистике в настоящее время стала полноправным способом словообразования, имеющим свои методы и правила. Хотя словообразование с помощью аббревиации появилось не так давно, однако оно уже получило широкое распространение.
