Теорія.

Голосні звуки в англійських транскрипціях передаються наступними знаками:

[A:] - читається як довгий звук «а»;

[Aelig-] - вимовляється як середнє між «а» і «е»;

[I:] - довгий звук «і»;

[I] - короткий «і»;

[Е] і [?] - Читається як «е»;

[?] - Вимовляється коротким "о";

[?:] І [з] - звук, близький до російського «е»;

[?] - Відповідає короткому «а»;

[U] і [u:] - відповідно коротке і довге «у»;

[Ai], [ei], [? I], [au], [? U], [i?], [U?], [??] - Відповідають звукам «ай», «їй», «ой» , «ау», «ау», «оу», «ІЕ», «УЕ», «ЕА».

Text 1 Read and translate the text pay attention to the new words

The stages of industry

There are three stages in the process of making saleable products from row material:

1. Extractive industry.

The raw materials are extracted from natural resources, for example the miner mines iron ore and the farmer grows wheat.

2. Processing industry.

The raw materials are processed into a form suitable for further use, for example

The iron is made into steel and the wheat is made into flour.

3. Manufacturing industry.

The result of the processing stage are made into semi-finished and finished goods,

for example the steel is made into knives and the flour is made into bread. Finished goods are goods which are complete in themselves, for example steel forks. Semi-finished goods must be assembled before they can be used, for example wooden knife handles and steel knife blades.

Відкритий склад

Перший тип - називається відкритий склад, він відрізняється тим, що закінчується на приголосну. Легко запам'ятати, що у відкритому складі голосна буде чітаеться так само, як вона звучить в алфавіті:Буква Приклади Звук

Закритий склад

Другий тип складу - це закритий склад. Слово в цьому випадку закінчується на приголосну. У цьому випадку коренева голосна буде читатися коротко.Буква Приклади Звук

e pencil [pensl], pen [pen], [E]

i (y) middle [midl], kitten [kitten]. [I]

Третій тип складу

Третій тип складу, якщо коренева голосна стоїть безпосередньо перед «r». У цьому випадку, голосні (e, u, y, i) будуть давати при читанні звук [?:], O - [?:], A - [a:],.

Четвертий тип складу

Четвертий тип складу, якщо коренева голосна буде стояти перед «re»:Буква Приклади Звук

Увага, запам'ятайте, що ненаголошені голосні здебільшого читаються як ослаблені, або нейтральні звуки [?] І [i], не враховуючи правила читання ударних голосних. Типова помилка російськомовних учнів - це чітке вимовлення ненаголошених голосних. Є випадки, звичайно, коли безударная гласний не повинна послаблюватися, наприклад, якщо за нею йде одна приголосна: July [d? Ulai], instrument [instrum? Nt]. У цьому випадку ненаголошені голосні слід вимовляти менш тривало і не так напружено, як ударні.

ІІІ. Основна частина.

Words which are more or less similar in form and in meaning are called international words

For example: constitution, revolution, accumulator, alpha, alphabet, ampere, atlas, atom, banjo, barbarism, benzol, billiards, bulldog, cafeteria, caravan, catastrophe, chaos, demagogue, dynamo, economic, electric, element, energy, film, kodak, legal, minimum, philosopher

EXERCISE 1 Study the following groups of words. Find the difference in the meaning in English and Ukrainian, as in the model.
