Prepositions Прийменники

В англійській мові прийменники мають дуже важливе значення, тому що при наявності лише невеликої кількості закінчень у словах вони є часто єдиними показниками граматичних відношень між словами в реченні. Прийменники бувають наступних видів: місця, напряму, часу:

Прийменники місця (Prepositions of Place):

on: The spoon is on the tray (на)

in: The pen is in the box (відповідає українському прийменнику в, у)

at: She works at an office (відповідає українському прийменнику в, у)

under: The dog is sleeping under the table (під).

in front of: The blackboard is in front of me (перед).

near: Our house is near the river (коло, близько, поблизу).

across: The train went across the fields (через).

between: The village is situated between two hills (між).

among: I saw a light among the trees (між, серед).

Прийменники напряму (Prepositions of Direction):

to: We went to the station (до, на, в, у)

into: She put the pencil into the box (в, у, всередину)

towards: He was moving towards the door (в напрямі до)

from: I am coming from the cinema (з, із, від)

out of: She took a handkerchief out of the drawer (з, із, з середини)

Прийменники часу (Prepositions of Time):

on: Come on Monday (відповідно українському прийменнику в, у)

in: Spring begins in March (теж у, в)

at: Our lesson will begin at ten o’clock (о 10 годині)

before: Michael rose before dawn (до, раніше, перед)

after: I shall speak to you after the lesson (після)

until: They will stay here until next week (до)

till: We stayed there till June (до)

during: I saw many interesting things during my vacation (підчас)

between: He was here between two and three o’clock (між)
