Taxi, bus, and metro
In Italy you generally don’t hail taxis, but go to a taxi stand. You can buy bus tickets at a newsstand and then validate them in the machine on the bus. You can use the same tickets both on the buses and on the metro.

Cultural tip In Italy the
metro exists only in Milan and Rome. There are only a few lines and they are identified by numbers (M1, M2, M3 in Milan) or letters of the alphabet (MA, MB in Rome). Look for the relevant end station to find the direction you need.

Be sure to familiarize yourself with the Italian rules of the road before driving in Italy. Italian autostrade (expressways) are fast but expensive toll (il pedaggio) roads. You usually take a ticket as you enter the expressway and pay according to the distance traveled as you leave it.
