Europeans, especially British: “Americans are bad dressers, and they are really fat.”
Finns: “Americans always want to say your name: ‘What a nice tie, Mikko. Hi Mikko, how are you Mikko?”
Indians: “Americans are always in a hurry. Just watch the way they walk down the street.”
Kenyans: “Americans are distant. They are not really close to other people – even other Americans.”
Turks: “Once we were out in a rural area in the middle of nowhere and saw an American driver come to a stop sign. Though he could see in both directions for miles, and there was no traffic, he still stopped!”
Colombians: “In the United States, they think that life is only work.”
Indonesians: “In the United States everything has to be talked about and analyzed. Even the slightest thing has to be ‘Why, why why?”

Американці самостійні і незалежні. Американці – прямі люди. Вони цінують у людях чесність, відвертість (open-heartedness). У веденні бізнесу вони швидко переходять до суті розмови і не витрачають час на формальності. Американці звертаються один до одного просто, навіть якщо між співрозмовниками велика різниця у віці і суспільному становищі (status). Американці дружні, але дружба рідко буває тривалою. Вони виділяють “друзів по роботі”, “друзів по спорту”, “друзів родини” і т. д. Американці ставлять багато запитань. Деякі з них можуть здатися елементарними і прямолінійними (straight).
Спілкування партнерів у неформальній обстановці – звичайна річ. Це нагода поговорити про родину і хобі. Краще уникати розмов про політику і релігію. Тости не прийняті. Тривалість ділового прийому в США коротша, ніж у Франції або Німеччині.
