6.2. Quizzing-game lesson

A quizzing-game lesson presents a kind of question-answer work which is competitive in its character. The circle is divided into three teams. Two of them put and answer questions connected with the topic of the quizzing-game lesson. The third one consists of a panel of judges.

The first task to all the teams is to make up as many meaningful questions on the topic as possible so that a set of questions of each team cover the problem in full.

After the teams are ready the teacher asks whether there are volunteers for carrying out the part of the Master of Ceremony, asks advice of the students who is to be appointed to conduct the lesson, and the quizzing-game begins.

The teams start answering questions of their rivals on the spot with no additional time to prepare. After 5 — 6 minutes the teacher changes the Master of Ceremony and a representative of the other team goes on conducting the quizzing-game.

Members of the panel of judges register every correct and incorrect answer so as to be able later to comment upon the teams' work. Two of them mark only positive answers giving a corresponding number of points to the participants of the game. The other two mark only negative answers. The judges also register mistakes in the use of the language, those in the meaning of the utterances, as well as the manner of presentation.

When the questions are all through, the Master of Ceremony asks the panel of judges whether the theme has been completely covered. If the answer is negative, then the teams are given some more time to play.

After the quizzing game of the two teams is over the Master of Ceremony asks whether anybody wants to put a question which hasn V been yet asked. If someone had such a question, the team it came from gains some extra-points. If the opponents can'tproduce a correct answer the right to answer is shifted to the author of the question, and his/her team gets some more extra-points again.

Then the team of the panel of judges takes the floor. They evaluate each member of the team and speak about the progress achieved by the whole team. The points gained by each member of the team are added together and the total

number of points for each team is scored up. The winner is the team scoring the advantage. The teacher gives marks to each of the students.

6.3. LECTURE LESSON

A lecture lesson is conducted as a lecture which is delivered by the teacher. As any non-standard lesson a lecture lesson is conducted after studying a unit of the text-book consisting of 5 — 6 lessons united by one topic. The lecture is organized in such a way that its contents stimulate learners' evaluating thinking: some mistakes, slips, errors and even blunders are included into the text of the lecture.

The tasks to the learners are as follows: Write down a summary of the lecture, underline problematic cases or pieces of wrong or incorrect information. If the span of the time allows correct the text.

After the lecture is over the learners hand in their papers. The teacher distributes them among the learners again but on random for the students to carry out mutual correction. When correction is over those who checked the papers are asked to explain their corrections orally to those who made mistakes. The latter are given time to prove their ideas. At the end of the lesson all the papers are handed to the teacher. She/He looks through the corrections made and gives the marks.
