GRAMMAR MATERIAL: The Verbals. The Infinitive.
After the verbs see, hear, watch, notice, feel followed by a noun or a pronoun a) use the infinitive without the participle to: I saw him drive away. b) Instead of the passive infinitive use the participle: They watched the car (being) filled up.
After the verbs see and hear used in the passive voice the infinitive retains the participle to: I saw him cross the street – He was seen to cross the street.

Want and would like do not introduce a clause: я хочу, чтобы / мне хотелось бы, чтобы вы выслушали меня. After want and would like use the pattern noun/pronoun + infinitive/participle: Он хочет/ему хотелось бы, чтобы вы остались. – He wants/would like you to stay. Я хочу, чтобы это было сделано снова. – I want it (to be) done all over again.

After the verb make in the active voice use the infinitive without the participle to, after the passive form of make use the infinitive with the participle to: Что заставило его уйти в отставку? - What made him resign? Его заставили уйти в отставку. – He was made to resign.

To express purpose use an infinitive if the action refers to the subject. If it does not, use for-complex (for + noun/pronoun) or an adverbial clause of purpose introduced by the conjunction so that: Аня не хотела простудиться, поэтому закрыла окно – Ann didn’t want to catch cold and closed the window. Аня не хотела, чтобы дети простудились, поэтому закрыла окно – Ann didn’t want the children to catch cold and closed the window / Ann closed the window so that the children might catch cold / Ann closed the window for the children not to catch cold.
