4) Что вас не устраивает, чем ваше исследование будет выгодно отличаться от предыдущих?

In our research we are going to concentrate on a specific group – students. We suspect that the situation among younger generation can drastically differ from the situation in the whole society. In order to find out if our suspicion is correct we are going to adopt “students society” as our target group. We can also reckon that there might be some dependence between practices of using technologies and the countries of origin. We are also going to compare the GMU (USA) and HSE(Russian Federation) students and will study the major differences between specific practices of using ICTs for different purposes.

5) Методология и методика вашего исследования (1 абзац).

Before conducting field research, it was important to know the scientific background of ICTs. Thus, we have analyzed the works of social scientists surrounding new media as a whole, the problems and challenges it produces, and analyzed surveys discussing the usage of ICTs in schools and universities. It helped us to understand that we wanted to concentrate on the comparison of the students’ usage of ICTs for living and studying and also on comparison of students from different countries (Russia and USA). Before launching the Internet survey we conducted several interviews with Russian and American students to ensure we are asking relevant questions that students could answer. After correcting the questionnaire we launched the Internet survey (through DatStat software and shared the link in social networks and Amazon’s Mechanical Turk) with the following questions: 1) usage of Internet in whole, social networking sites in particular, and text messaging (for example, “In general, how confident are you using ICTs?”, “How long do you spend on-line on a typical day?”, “What do you use Facebook for?”, 2) particular questions about usage of ICT for education (“How much do you use the following devices for studying?”, “Do you tend to use technologies for academic purposes in the following locations?”, “Which resource is the most useful for academic research?”) and personal purposes (“How often do you use technologies for contacting people, personal mail, information (reading news, fact finding), buying or selling goods, etc.?”); 3) questions about multitasking – ability to make several things at the same moment (“How often do you study while logged on to Facebook?”, “How often will you check sites such as Facebook, email, Twitter etc. while studying?”) and addiction to the Internet and text messaging (“Which devices are the most destruction?”, “Do you think you are addicted to the Internet?”, “or to the text messaging?”, “Would you study better if there were no ICTs?”). We also asked students about life without technologies (“How would your education and your personal life change if one or more of the technologies you use were not available?”). After collecting data we have analyzed it through SPSS (Statistical package for social sciences) using such methods as factor analysis, descriptive statistics, T-tests and Pearson’s correlation.

For realizing our goal we have created a list of goals of hypotheses to test in order to study the subject this set of methods will lead us through the empirical part of the research. We have used different methods of data analysis in respect of the specific goal we were trying to achieve.

In this research one can find both qualitative and quantitative methods used for analyzing qualitative and quantitative variable correspondingly. The general model of our research is firstly to describe the general trend in average received from combined and aggregated data from the full sample and then to find out crucial differences between GMU and HSE students.
