It wasn’t nearly as enchanting as the tv show made it look.

Chapter Twenty-Two

With Ted Johnston in the hospital and his thug-kid in custody, April and Guin buzzed through the remaining paperwork for the alarm company case with their sights set on home. Guin shook her hand out, eyes fuzzy, fingers cramping after the marathon writing session. Amazing how the promise of an after-work reward had her expediting the process.

April smiled, coyly remarked, “Don’t wear those fingers out, please.”

“Officer Marcus?” Lieutenant Sloan’s voice boomed from the doorway. Sloan wasn’t a large woman by any stretch, but her voice proclaimed authority.

Guin glanced April’s direction, hoped Sloan hadn’t overheard her teasing comment and bust them so early into their affair. As it was, if this one lasted, everyone would know about it sooner or later anyway. Guin swallowed hard at the idea of long-term relations. Oh boy.

“Yes, Lieutenant?” Guin answered, her voice high and scratchy like a busted teenage boy.

“See you in my office before you go?”

“Yes, Lieutenant.”

Sloan wasn’t very good at casual-friendly, but she offered a parting nod in April’s direction.

“Jesus, I hope she didn’t hear that,” Guin whispered.

“You embarrassed about me?” April feigned offense, but quickly smiled. “You better go see what she wants. See you at my place around seven, right?”

“Yeah, sounds good.” Guin quickly sat down right next to April, their thighs touching on the couch. She leaned dangerously close, held the paperwork out and pretended to explain things to her for the chance to be that near. She whispered breathily, “This part is done, just needs your signature. And I cannot stop thinking about everything I want to do with you this evening.”

April answered by stretching one arm back, giving Guin a glimpse of her sexy lacy bra just beneath her purposely unbuttoned neckline. Guin rolled her eyes back, smiled as April playfully remarked, “To be continued.”

Aching with desire, Guin wondered if it was obvious as she strode through the hallway on her way to Sloan’s office, her mind fully engaged with the sexual calisthenics the evening would surely bring. She hoped like hell the meeting would be record short. She knocked on Sloan’s office door.

“Come in, take a seat.”

“How can I help you, Lieutenant?”

“Just a little talk, that’s all.” Sloan leaned back in her chair, produced as warm a smile as possible. “How are you adjusting, Marcus? You and Officer Reese bonding okay?”

Oh, if only she knew. Guin’s thoughts were trained on April’s sweet, shapely curves, her supple— “Yeah, I like her all right. She’s a good person to have by your side.”

And on top. And beneath. Guin smiled, internally laughing at her own jokes.

Lieutenant Sloan was nodding.

“Good.” Sloan paused, studied the bright, clear eyes before her. She was pleased to see the officer looking so alert. Perhaps her days of binge drinking and bathroom trysts were behind her. Good. She then remembered the point of the meeting she’d called. “I was reviewing the case for the meth lab explosion. You know the one.”

“Yeah, I chased the one guy down the street. Why?”

“Detective Burnette was also on that call.”

“Yes, ma’am, he was. What’s wrong? Did I leave something out of my report?”

Sloan opened the folder, flipped through the papers. She found the photos that she’d allowed to be submitted for the final report. She shook her head and abandoned the folder, directed her attention toward the keyboard. Sloan then turned the monitor so that Guin could get a look at the pictures she’d brought up on the screen. “I’m just wondering what you think about these.”
