Research part:

I have maid a small research and have found out what people think in common about the demolition of the estate Volkonskiis in Moscow. They were very intrigued with all the circumstances and some of them even gave me very remarkable and emotional comments:

72% of the audience think that the building should be repaired.

23% think that nothing should be done

3% think that the estate should be destroyed

And only 1% refused to answer.

Then, group was asked about the solution of the problem and here are their suggestions:

63% of asked people recommended making a museum in this building

28% consider to renovate the estate and to use it for some practical purposes.

9

% does not have really any ideas

As for me, I think that the best idea is to make a tourist attraction from the estate as it was done with another Volkonskiis estate. Continuing the traditions of Volkonskiis, in our time, the museum staff spends here evenings, stage performances and listening to music of the 19 century. Park facade is decorated with six-column portico. It opens a beautiful view of the village on a high opposite bank. One of the tree-lined avenues leading to the gazebo on the bank - "Temple of Venus». Further, an arched walkway leads to the bridge thrown across the ravine. Under the bridge track is on the dam. Crossing the ravine should be directed to the most, perhaps, interesting constructions of Sukhanov - the mausoleum. On the way to it can not pass by a bronze sculpture of a girl with a broken jug - a copy of a famous sculpture PP Sokolov, located in the Tsar's village park and praised by Alexander Pushkin.

Currently, in the estate is situated the sanatorium of the Union of Architects. Currently, park, the building itself and the adjacent church is open to visitors and are very popular. This is really the place which worth visiting. And many of my friends enthusiastically describe their journey to this wonderful part of our history.

The question is: why can not we do the same with the Volkonskiis estate in Moscow? It is situated in the center of the city and and it is our shame that we can not save the monuments which have left for us previous generations.

The next variant is to reconstruct and use the building for some special purposes as it is done with the most part of architecturally valuable buildings.

Other possible uses of buildings:

  • To transfer to private persons (for offices) with established commitments to preserve and maintain the original form of the building.

  • In connection with the problem of a large number of street children, the building can be used to accommodate orphanage homes or shelters.

  • premises may be given to some educational institutions (as it was done with our Center for School Education)

  • Facilities can be provided for the use of educational institutions (as was done with our Center for School Education)

Conclusion.

The Volkonskiis estate is part of our history and I think that we can not close our eyes and pretend that we do not see what is happening. Everything possible should be done to save this monument. Some people are already fighting for the future of the estate, for our future. And I think that we surely should join them and do our best for finding the way out of this awful situation.

Over the years, we are losing too many historical monuments. And would not you be ashamed looking into the eyes of our children and grandchildren when they would not be able to see all this magnificence, and know that it is your fault and your inaction. I personally would be ashamed. And because of that right now I am trying to give all possible assistance in the preservation of our culture.

The estate should be saved and I suppose that all mentioned above methods can be very useful. And I also fervently hope that my research made you think and can help people in their noble beginnings.

Thank you very much for your attention.
