Visible adj able to be seen: capable of being seen by, or perceptible to, the human eye

sufficient adj enough: as much as is needed

silhouette v make something appear as a silhouette: to cause somebody or something to appear surrounded by light (often passive)

Sacred Heart n heart of Jesus Christ: in the Roman Catholic Church, the heart of Jesus Christ, seen as a symbol of his love (and an image representing the Sacred Heart, often shown as bleeding)

knob n rounded handle or dial: a rounded projecting part attached to a door, drawer, appliance, or other object, used as a handle or a dial or switch

toss v lightly throw something: to throw something lightly, especially with the palm of the hand upward

tie n strip of fabric worn around neck: a long tapering piece of fabric worn around the neck, under a shirt collar, and tied at the front so that the ends hang down the front of the shirt

wind v make a clockwork mechanism work: to turn a key or handle in a clock or clockwork device in order to make the mechanism operate, usually by means of a spring that tightens on being wound

kneel (knelt, knelt) v rest on knees: to rest on, or get down on, one or both knees

hasty adj done in a hurry: done, taking place, or acting in a hurry because of impetuosity or lack of time

sign of the cross n gesture in form of cross: in Christianity, a movement of the hand as if tracing a cross in the air or on the body, usually by touching the forehead, chest, and shoulders in turn. The gesture is made, mainly by Roman Catholics, in order to invoke the blessing of God or as a declaration of Christian faith.

bury v hide something by covering: to hide something by covering it with a lot of things so it cannot be seen

dismay n feeling of discouragement: a feeling of hopelessness, disappointment, or discouragement

embarrass v make or become self-conscious: to become or cause somebody to become painfully self-conscious, ashamed, humiliated, or ill at ease

devotions n prayers: prayers or other religious observances, especially somebody’s private prayers or observances

reverent adj respectful: feeling or expressing profound respect or awe

upright adj erect: standing vertically or straight upward

abandonment n lack of restraint: complete lack of inhibition or self-restraint

pride oneself on something v be proud of something: to obtain personal satisfaction and pleasure from a particular source, especially something accomplished or a quality possessed

complacent adj satisfied: self-satisfied, usually in an unreflective way and without being aware of possible dangers

bless v make holy: to bestow holiness on somebody or something in a religious ceremony
